First Serve
Midwestern State opens the 2019 season in a neutral site meeting against Laredo Community College on Wednesday at the Waco Regional Tennis & Fitness Center. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
 
Scouting the Palominos
LCC enters the matchup with a 2-0 record after defeating St. Mary's and Our Lady of the Lake…the Palominos earned a No. 4 preseason ranking in the Oracle/ITA junior college men's national rankings…the Palominos boast five ranked individuals in singles in No. 17 Maurico Grijalva, No. 22 Juan David Ramirez, No. 32 Manuel Pilotto, No. 36 Adrian Martinez and No. 44 Rodrigo Mere…LCC also put two doubles teams in the national rankings as the No. 8 tandem of Manuel Pilotto and Maurico Grijalva join the No. 12 pair of Juan David Ramirez and Alberto Mello…

Linn Nears Win No. 300 in the Maroon and Gold
Scott Linn enters his ninth season at the helm of the men's and women's tennis programs, needing 25 wins for his 300th overall win at MSU Texas. The East Central graduate has posted a 275-124 (.689) combined record with the Mustangs, including a 131-62 (.679) mark with the men's program. He needs 229 wins to match Larry Wiggins (1995-2010) program record of 507.
 
Mustangs Ranked No. 14 to Start Year
Midwestern State opened the 2019 season ranked No. 14 in the initial Oracle/ITA Division II team rankings.
 
MSU Texas returns seven letterwinners from last season's squad while a talented young trio joined the Mustangs in the offseason.
 
Westwick and Diaz Start Top-10
The tandem of freshman Ben Westwick and sophomore Alberto Diaz earned the No. 8 national doubles ranking in the fall after advancing to the ITA Cup.
 
The Mustangs dominated the regional rankings with four doubles teams and five individuals earning a spot in the poll.
 
Alex Martinez Roca and Denney Norrie came in at No. 4 after advancing to the semifinals of the regional tournament, followed by Dillon Pineda and Nolan McCaig at No. 5. The pair of Jean Muniz and Angel Palacios rounded out the rankings for the Maroon and Gold at No. 7.
 
In singles, McCaig (10th), Palacios (11th) and Pineda (13th) climbed up the regional standings after moving to the Round of 16 at the regional tournament. Martinez Roca (17th) and Yaswanth Mylavarapu (20th) closed out the poll.
 
What's Back
Senior Dillon Pineda leads the way for the Maroon and Gold, returning a combined 82-52 record in three seasons with the Mustangs. Juniors Angel Palacios and Denney Norrie along with sophomores Alex Martinez Roca, Nolan McCaig, Jean Muniz and Yaswanth Mylavarapu look to build off an outstanding 2018 season. MSU Texas returns 130 combined singles wins and 147 combined doubles wins.
 
New Faces
The Mustangs added three new faces to the 2019 roster. Sophomore Alberto Diaz joins the Maroon and Gold from Nebraska-Kearney. Freshmen Quentin Scharfenberg and Ben Westwick make their first dual match appearances on Saturday.
