POSTSEASON SCENARIO: Midwestern State must beat Cameron to keep its Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament hopes alive. The Mustangs need a win Tuesday and needs to finish a game in the standings better than the Aggies, who hold tiebreaking wins over Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico. That means the Mustangs need two more wins than Cameron – one must be against the Aggies – in the final three games of the regular season.
 
THE OPPONENT: Cameron dropped its fifth consecutive game falling 80-77 Saturday at Western New Mexico… The Aggies are playing their seventh road game in a nine-game stretch dating back to its 71-70 win over Midwestern State on Jan. 15… Cameron is 2-6 over the last eight games with six of those on the road… The Aggies rank second in the Lone Star Conference and sixth in NCAA D2 with 424 made free throws while rating third in the league and 12th nationally with 579 attempts… Cameron are third in the LSC committing 12.5 turnovers per game (91st in D2) with a +3.3 turnover margin (3rd in LSC/30th in D2)… Senior guard Tyus Momoh paces the Aggies scoring 13.9 points per game and is second in the LSC dishing out 4.3 assists per game… Momoh scored in double figures in each of his last six games including a season-high 27 against West Texas A&M… Senior guard Zach Dumas scores 13.1 points per game and leads the LSC in free throw makes (110) and attempts (140) – 78.6 percent… Andrew Brown is 36-46 (.439) in his third season as head coach at Cameron… Overall, Brown sports a 155-158 mark (.495) in 11 seasons as a collegiate head coach going 119-112 in eight campaigns at Northwestern Oklahoma State (2007-15)…
 
MSU VS. CAMERON (PART 1): Tyus Momoh's 3-pointer from the right wing finished off a game-ending 16-3 run to lift Cameron to a 71-70 win over Midwestern State on Jan. 15 at Aggie Gym. The comeback spoiled a great second-half effort by the Mustangs, who had spun a 14-point first-half deficit into a 67-55 lead with 3:23 to play. Senior guard JaJuan Starks paced the Mustangs with 17 points, while Gilbert Thomas posted a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds. Momoh paced Cameron with 17 points.
 
LAST TIME OUT: UT Permian Basin used a 19-0 spurt late in the first half to take control in an 80-61 win over Midwestern State Saturday at the Falcon Dome in Odessa. UTPB senior guard Jacob Ledoux ripped the nets for 34 points including five 3-pointers, while Xavier Ledet posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Falcons posted a +25 edge on the glass (52-27) and shot 45.2 percent from the field. Junior D'monta Harris connected on five triples to pace Midwestern State with 17 points off of the bench, while Gilbert Thomas contributed his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
HAGGERTY CLAIMS 150TH WIN: Midwestern State boasts a 153-86 mark (.640) in Nelson Haggerty's eighth season as head coach. He has led the Mustangs to the NCAA postseason in five of his seven seasons including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2012 and four LSC championships in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Haggerty claimed his second LSC Coach of the Year award in 2016 sharing honors with former Cameron coach Nate Gamet. He also claimed the honor in 2012.

TRENDS: Midwestern State needs a win over Cameron Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum to avert elimination from the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament... The Mustangs last missed the postseason in 2007-08... The Mustangs have claimed seven wins this season with three games to play. Midwestern State has won at least 10 games in each season dating back to the 1957-58 campaign... The Mustangs have held a lead in 24 of 25 games this season... The Mustangs overcame a double-digit deficit for the third time this season to beat Western New Mexico -- 81-78 -- to snap a seven-game slide Thursday in Silver City… MSU Texas finishes the season with its last three games at D.L. Ligon Coliseum playing host to Cameron Tuesday before taking on Angelo State next Thursday and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday… The Mustangs lost eight of their last nine with seven coming on the road including seven straight losses from Jan. 15-Feb. 9… The seven-game losing streak was the longest since MSU dropped seven straight from Jan. 4-21, 1989... It's just the second time in program history the Mustangs suffered through two skids of at least six games in the same season as the 1988-89 squad lost their first eight games then lost seven consecutive times from Jan. 4-21, 1989… The Mustangs surrendered a go-ahead 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds to play in an 81-80 loss to Eastern New Mexico Saturday at Ligon Coliseum. MSU also fell to UA-Fort Smith 64-63 on a 3-pointer with 8 seconds to play on Nov. 10th and 71-70 at Cameron on a triple with 1.8 seconds left… The Mustangs finished with a 2-9 road record this season… The two road wins are the fewest since the 1988-89 team went 2-12 away from Ligon Coliseum… MSU Texas is 5-4 in games they lead at the half and 2-14 when the game is tied (0-1) or if trailing (2-13) at the break… Midwestern State claimed an 88-82 win over Oklahoma Christian in its first overtime game of the season on Dec. 19th… The Mustangs were 2-1 in overtime games last season claiming victories at Western State (Colo.) and against Eastern New Mexico with the loss coming at Texas A&M-Commerce…
