Brown, Childs, Tate gain second-team All-LSC honors

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State landed on the All-Lone Star Conference's second team and five more gained honorable mention as the league announced its annual postseason football honors Friday afternoon.

The Mustangs finished the season with a 5-6 overall record placing sixth with a 3-5 mark during league play.

Senior running back Quinton Childs joined junior offensive lineman Caleb Brown and junior outside linebacker Dwayne Tate on the second team to headline MSU Texas performers to earn second-team honors.

Childs ranked fourth in the LSC rushing for 758 yards with 11 touchdowns making the transition from wide receiver to running back prior to his senior season. The El Paso native also caught 18 passes for 160 yards.

Childs delivered three 100-yard efforts including a season-high 174 to help the Mustangs to a 14-8 win over UT  Permian Basin on Sept. 21. A week prior, he ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-27 win over the eventual GLVC champion Lindenwood (Mo.).

Childs also accounted for 165 yards on 23 carries against Eastern New Mexico.

Brown, who started all 11 games at right tackle, earned All-LSC mention for the third straight season. The 6-3, 295-pounder from Rowlett gained honorable mention in each of the last two seasons.

Brown is a mainstay on MSU Texas' front unit starting each of the Mustangs' last 32 games since the start of his redshirt-freshman campaign in 2017.

Tate ranked third on the team making 50 tackles from his rover position. The Arlington High product accounted for 5 1/2 tackles for loss and broke up five passes this season.

Tate made at least five tackles six times this season closing the year with matching campaign highs of six tackles against Western New Mexico and West Texas A&M.

Senior wide receiver Xavier Land (47 rec. for 674 yards), sophomore running back Lazarus Fisher (574 rushing yards, 11 catches for 127 yards), sophomore defensive end Melik Owens (13.5 tackles for loss, seven quarterback sacks), senior cornerback Jaydon Cunigan (45 tackles, seven passes defended) and senior safety Marcus Wilkerson (84 tackles, five passes defended) gained honorable mention.
