WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Western Colorado University (2-0) defeated Midwestern State University (0-2) 38-13 at Memorial Stadium, with Western Colorado scoring three first-quarter touchdowns to set the pace.

The first quarter began with Midwestern State receiving the kickoff, and
Jaylin Broadus returning it 15 yards to the MSU 18-yard line. The drive opened with a promising 10-yard pass from
Jakolby Longino to
Conner Dunphy but was quickly halted by sacks on consecutive plays, leading to a blocked punt that set #8 Mountaineers up at the MSU 21-yard line. Western Colorado took advantage of good starting field position, finding the end zone three times in the opening quarter, holding a 21-0 advantage.

The second quarter featured a dynamic start for Midwestern State, as
Jakolby Longino's 35-yard pass to
Jamarion Carroll set up an early scoring opportunity at the Western Colorado 7-yard line. However, despite the promising drive, the Mustangs' efforts were thwarted with a turnover on downs at the Western Colorado two yardline.
Amani Pressley's interception at the #8 Mountaineers 28-yard line momentarily shifted momentum back to Midwestern State, but the subsequent drive ended with a blocked field goal attempt. The Mustangs' defense came through late in the quarter, with
Noah Bustard sacking Drew Nash for a 7-yard loss, forcing a turnover on downs.

Longino found
Demonte Greene for multiple key completions during the 3
rd quarter, including a 16-yard pass on third down from the MSU 2-yard line, highlighting the offensive drive despite pressure from #8 WCU. However, the offense faced setbacks, culminating in a turnover at 00:32 when Ricky Freymond intercepted a pass, cutting short a promising drive deep in #8 WCU territory.

The fourth quarter began with a strong special teams play as
Cedonyae Lott returned a punt for 46 yards, setting up Midwestern State at the #8 Mountaineers 31-yard line.
Jakolby Longino capitalized on this field position with a 24-yard touchdown pass to
Case Peacock, narrowing the score gap. Later, with just under four minutes left, Longino connected with
Jamarion Carroll for another touchdown, capping an 80-yard drive, although the subsequent extra point was missed. The late burst was not enough, was the #8 Mountaineers took home a 38-13 victory.

Jakolby Longino completed 27 of 49 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns.
Demonte Greene tallied 98 receiving yards on 11 catches.
Amani Pressley intercepted one pass in the defensive secondary. On defense,
Noah Bustard led the team with eight tackles and recorded one sack.

Drew Nash led the charge for #8 WCU with 243 passing yards, completing 18 of 27 attempts, and throwing for three touchdowns. On the ground, Nash added a rushing touchdown from nine carries, accumulating 19 yards. Caden Measner was a key target, recording six receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. Ramon Ruiz contributed with three catches for 59 yards and a scoring reception. Defensively, Ricky Freymond stood out with six tackles, including a sack, and intercepted a pass.
