WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's duo of freshman Ben Westwick and sophomore Alberto Diaz plowed through the doubles main draw at the ITA South Central Region Championships to earn a berth at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. beginning Oct. 11.
 
The MSU tandem took out three of the top five seeds, including the No. 1 overall pair of St. Mary's Bojan Popovic and Jeremiah Gonzalez. On Sunday, the team ousted Cameron's Julen Gutierrez and Vinicius Santos, 6-3, 6-4, completing their Cinderella run through the bracket.
 
No stranger to upsets himself, sophomore Yaswanth Mylavarapu triumphed in the consolation bracket of the main draw. The Leawood, Kan., product bested No. 1 overall seed, Raul Stevens (UTPB) in the semifinals, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10) before a straight-sets win against Andre Mercado of St. Edward's gave Mylavarapu the consolation crown.
 
All-American Maddy Coffman dropped a tough 7-6, 7-5 decision to Cameron's No. 3-seeded Zhenia Shviadok in the semifinals.
 
Greta Lazzarotto and Lea Cizeron fell to Paola Carpio and Kate Malazonia of St. Edward's in the women's doubles consolation finals to round out the results for the Maroon and Gold.
