Storylines
Beating the Lady Buffs
Coach
Ryan Spence battled West Texas A&M to a pair of draws last season while at the helm of the ENMU program. In the first meeting, Spence's Greyhounds kept the Lady Buffs scoreless in a 0-0 draw at Greyhound Stadium before scoring in the 88
th-minute in Canyon to earn a 1-1 draw.
Same Face, New Place
In his one season in Portales, Spence led the Greyhounds to the most wins as a first-year coach in program history with a 5-9-6 mark and the third-most career wins in school history.
The former MSU Texas All-American guided ENMU to its first-ever victory in the Lone Star Conference Tournament with a 4-0 shutout against the Mustangs.
Open The Floodgates
After a string of shutouts totaling over 230 minutes of game time, the Mustangs snapped a two-match scoring drought on
Avery Lewis' goal in the 16
th-minute against Angelo State.
Since that point, the Mustangs have exploded for four goals in the last 100-minutes of play, nearly doubling the season output.
Starting Sarah
Junior defender
Sarah Stewart makes her 50
th-appearance the next time she takes the field for the Maroon and Gold. The second team All-Conference performer leads all active players with 47 career starts and trails only
Taylor Robinson on the active list for games played.
Sensational Senna
Freshman
Senna Garcia was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Mustangs to a 1-0-1 record the first week of the season.
The Albuquerque native scored the first goal of the season in her first career collegiate game for the Mustangs in their win over New Mexico Highlands. Garcia leads the team with three goals on the year.
The stakes were raised on the freshman's second goal of the weekend. Trailing 2-1 to Fort Lewis, the Skyhawks were called for a handball in the box with 10 seconds to go. Garcia calmly picked up the ball and struck the equalizer into the upper corner of the net to force overtime.
Garcia added her third goal and second game winner by breaking the scoring seal in the second half against UTPB.
Kelly Cannistra found Garcia in the right wing before the freshman chipped the ball inside the left post to give MSU Texas a 1-0 advantage.
Baley Dropping Dimes
Freshman
Emma Baley sits atop the team and third in Lone Star Conference with three assists on the year. The hometown product is one of six players to start all seven games this season and has rarely stepped off the field for the Mustangs.
