THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS – No. 15 Midwestern State suffered an 8-1 setback to top-ranked Tyler Junior College on Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center. The loss snaps a six-match winning streak for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs' 22nd-ranked duo of
Alex Martinez Roca and
Angel Palacios won their ninth-straight match, securing MSU's lone win at the No. 3 doubles court. The tandem dropped Drew Brown and Karl Mosterd, 8-5, to improve to 15-1 on the season.
The lead for MSU would be short-lived, however, as the 12th-ranked pair of
Dillon Pineda and
Nolan McCaig faltered to Marcus Walters and Alex Parker, 8-2, at No. 1 to tie the match.
Vasudev Vijayaraman and
Denney Norrie were unable to rally against Aaron Westerlund and Alejandro Hayen, 8-6, at No. 2 to give the Apaches a 2-1 lead going into singles.
TJC held on to the momentum, winning first sets on all six singles courts and claiming five wins in straight-sets. McCaig took 22nd-ranked Hayen to the wire before slipping in the third set, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
