WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
RUNNING PAST THE HOUNDS: The Mustangs trek to Eastern New Mexico in sixth place in the Lone Star Conference standings, a game back of the Greyhounds. Earlier this season, the Maroon and Gold claimed a 73-57 decision over ENMU at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Senior guard
Jasmine Richardson flirted with a double-double, going for 15 points and nine rebounds and senior guard
Whitney Taylor added 14 points on a barrage of treys as MSU shot 50 free throws.
TAYLOR SHOOTING FOR HISTORY: Senior guard
Whitney Taylor leads MSU with 10.2 points per game on 33.3 percent shooting. The Melissa native is the 20
th-leading scorer in the LSC and needs four more triples to break former teammate Lisa Hampton's (154 3s/2011-15) all-time record. The senior has four games this season with at least four made treys, including a season-high five against Oklahoma Christian on Nov. 11. Last weekend, Taylor was held scoreless for the first time since Nov. 21, 2015 against CSU-Pueblo. She's 98 points shy of eclipsing 1,000 in her storied MSU career.
MICHELINE THE MACHINE: Senior forward
Micheline Mercelita notched her seventh double-double of the season against West Texas A&M, going for 16 points and 13 rebounds. Over the last 14 games, the Edinburg native is averaging 10.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game with six double-double performances. The UTRGV transfer is the fourth-leading rebounder in the Lone Star Conference, pulling down 8.8 boards per game.
CATHCART PROVIDING A SPARK: Sophomore forward Liz Cathcart went for a season-high 14 points and seven rebounds against UT Permian Basin in her first action since Dec. 7 on Thursday. The Spring Branch product went 5-for-8 from the field and scored eight of her 14 points in the second half and overtime. On Saturday, Cathcart tacked on four points and six rebounds in 21 minutes against the 25
th-ranked Lady Buffs.
STREAKY GREYHOUNDS: Eastern New Mexico enters the matchup winners in five of the last six games and despite a 5-4 record at Greyhound Arena, ENMU has won five of the last six contests at home. After starting the year 3-5, Eastern has gone 11-4 with the only losses to second-ranked Lubbock Christian, Angelo State, Western New Mexico and MSU. Mikaehla Connor leads the Greyhounds with 10.6 points and is second on the team with 6.0 rebounds per game. Daeshi McCants and Shelby Jones provide a presence in the post, averaging 9.0 and 7.0 points per game, respectively. Brandi Gomez adds 8.7 points per game off the bench, shooting at a 32.4 percent clip from three.
