WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Angelo State's Cassandra Moosburger delivered a game-winning strike in the 98th minute to spoil a chance at another comeback victory for Midwestern State in a 3-2 result Friday night at Stang Park.
Midwestern State (4-2, 0-1 LSC) erased a 2-0 deficit with less than 20 minutes to play in regulation with
Avery Lewis scoring the first goal for the Mustangs at the 72:11 mark with a strike from 25 yards out off an assist from
Brandy Villasana for a 2-1 contest.
With less than three minutes remaining, Villasana's first career goal came on a header near the left post off a
Destinee Williamson free kick from the right side of the pitch to deliver the equalizer with 2:42 to play.
However, the Mustangs were unable to complete the comeback in overtime with Moosburger sending a shot from the right side of the box to propel Angelo State (5-1, 2-0 LSC) to the 3-2 victory.
After a scoreless first half, the Rambelles went in front 2-0 midway through the second period with back-to-back goals from Trenadey Scott to push her season total to a Lone Star Conference-best eight.
Scott struck in the 67th minute with a rocket from the left side of the box into the top right corner of the net to lift Angelo State to a 1-0 advantage. Just five minutes later, the Rambelles stretched their lead to 2-0 after earning a penalty kick to set up Scott for her second goal of the match.
