@MustangsWSoccer ends homestand with 3-0 shutout of UT Permian Basin

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior Destinee Williamson notched a team-high three points with a goal and assist while sophomores Madison Davis and Sarah Stewart scored their first career goals to lift Midwestern State to its first Lone Star Conference win of the season in a 3-0 shutout of UT Permian Basin Sunday afternoon at Stang Park.

Midwestern State (5-2, 1-1 LSC) moved in front in the 26th minute as Williamson recorded her third goal and second game winner of the year with a shot from the right side of the box off a pass from freshman Brooke Dulin for a 1-0 MSU lead.

A yellow card on UT Permian Basin's (1-5-1, 0-2 LSC) Kelsey Byrd set up a penalty kick opportunity for Davis in the 38th minute with the Wichita Falls native burying the ball into the back of the net for her first career score to stretch the Mustangs advantage to 2-0 at the break.

The Mustangs defense held strong in recording their fourth shutout of the season, holding the Falcons to just one shot in the opening period. One of UTPB's best looks at the goal came in the first half, but freshman Micah Wilson made a key tackle inside the box to prevent a 1-on-1 opportunity for the Falcons.

In the 63rd minute, the Mustangs pushed their lead to 3-0 with a Williamson corner kick finding Stewart in the box for a header goal to score her first career strike on her birthday.

UTPB managed four shots in the second half with McKenna Peters placing the team's first of two shots on goal for the game at the 85:09 mark.
