WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State begins its national championship run Wednesday as the 15th-ranked Mustangs square off against No. 40 Indiana (Pa.) in the NCAA Round of 16 at the Sanlando Park Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
 
MSU IN THE POSTSEASON
- Midwestern State is making its sixth Sweet 16 appearance in school history, making showings in 2000, 2005, 2013, 2014 and 2015
- The Mustangs earned the program's first win at the NCAA Championships in 2015, defeating No. 12 California (Pa.) 5-1 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz., to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight
- MSU has qualified for 17 of 20 NCAA Tournaments since becoming a NCAA Division II member in 1997-98
- The Mustangs defeated No. 24 Dallas Baptist, 5-1, last Monday at the MSU Tennis Center to earn a trip to nationals
- Midwestern carries a 15-16 record in the NCAA Tournament
- This is MSU's third trip to Florida for the Sweet 16, with Altamonte Springs serving as the host site in 2005 and 2014
 
LOOKING AHEAD
- The winner between Midwestern State and Indiana (Pa.) will face either No. 16 Northeastern State (Central Region No. 1 seed, 19-5) or No. 5 Armstrong State (Southeast Region No. 2 seed, 24-4) in a national quarterfinal matchup Thursday at 8 a.m. (CST) at the Sanlando Park Tennis Center

A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State comes into the week with a 22-4 record with MSU's 22 wins tying for the third-most victories in a single season in program history
- The Mustangs have defeated 14-straight Division II opponents and have won 16 of their last 17 matches dating back to Mar. 18
- MSU has tallied an 8-3 record against nationally-ranked teams this season with five wins coming over top-25 programs
- The Mustangs earned the South Central Region's No. 2 seed in this year's postseason tournament, joining top seed St. Mary's (Texas) in representing the region at the national championship site
- Leading the Mustangs at No. 1 singles is junior Daria Panferova, who ranks fifth in the region with a 14-8 record including six wins over regionally-ranked players this season
- Freshman Bianca Duff also cracks the top 10 in the regional rankings at No. 7 with a 17-6 record on court three with all of her wins coming in straight sets
- Sophomore Eirini Kontaki also appears in the regional rankings at No. 12, coming in with a team-best five-match win streak with wins in all three postseason matches for an 18-7 mark at No. 2 singles
- At No. 4 singles, sophomore Maddy Coffman leads the Mustangs with a 20-4 record to tie for the ninth-most singles wins in a season in program history after winning 16 of her last 17 matches
- Sophomore Greta Lazzarotto adds an 18-4 record on court five for the Mustangs, claiming 13 of her 14 matches
- Freshman Ashley Ramirez rounds out the singles lineup for MSU with a 17-5 mark at No. 6 singles, winning 14 of her last 15
- In doubles, Coffman and Duff team up to combine for the fourth-ranked team in the region with a 23-3 as the No. 1 team for the Mustangs
- Coffman's 43 combined wins this season come in sixth in the program record books and are the most since 2005 as she became just the eighth Mustang in school history to reach 20 singles and 20 doubles wins in a single season
- On court three, Lazzarotto and Ramirez have also paired together for a 23-3 record
- At No. 2 doubles, Panferova and Kontaki are 11-2 this season and are winners of five-straight matches to rank 10th in the region

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON HAWKS
- Indiana (Pa.) is making its seventh-straight trip to the NCAA Championships after coming in as the Atlantic Region's No. 2 seed in each of the last six seasons
- The Crimson Hawks arrive in Altamonte Springs as the Atlantic Region's No. 1 seed following a 20-5 campaign and their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in school history
- IUP is 3-2 against nationally-ranked teams this season with wins over No. 46 Mercyhurst (Pa.), No. 47 Grand Valley State (Mich.) and No. 48 Charleston (W. Va.)
- MSU and IUP have faced two common opponents this season in Oklahoma Baptist and Texas A&M-Kingsville with the Crimson Hawks falling to both opponents while MSU defeated OBU in March and TAMUK twice in April
- Jarka Petercakova is the highest-ranked player in the region for the Crimson Hawks at No. 3 with a 13-9 record at No. 1 singles
- On court two, Luise von Agris follows closely behind at fourth in the region with a 16-7 mark
- Raquel Gonzalez has won 13-straight matches at No. 3 singles for a 17-5 record and regional ranking of No. 6
- Katya Minchenkova ranks 14th in the region playing No. 4 for the Crimson Hawks with a 16-4 record
- In doubles, the duo of Petercakova and von Agris rank 16th nationally and first in the region with a 19-6 slate playing the top position
- Gonzalez and Rachel Wood have combined for an 18-5 record on court two while Minchenkova and Sophie Butland are 18-4 at No. 3
