IRVING, Texas -- Juniors Trip Hobson and Dominick Haskins fired even-par 72s Tuesday to lead Midwestern State to a sixth-place showing at the Dallas Baptist Patriot Classic played at the par-72, 7,023-yard Hackberry Creek Country Club.
 
The Mustangs closed tournament play with a team total of 877 (+13) carding rounds of 288, 294 and 295.
 
Hobson, a transfer from Tyler JC, closed tournament play with back-to-back, even-par 72s delivering team countable scores in each round. He finished strong with birdies on two of his last three holes to finish the day with four on his way to tie for 15th with a 2-over, 54-hole total of 218.
 
Haskins also notched par-or-better tallies in two of three rounds including a 2-under 70 in the opening round. The transfer from Midland College logged three birdies in the third round for an even-par 72 to finish tied for 25th with a 4-over total of 220.
 
Senior Jared Baker closed out another stellar effort narrowly missing out on a fifth consecutive Top 10 finish taking 11th after carding rounds of 70, 72 and 74 for an even-par total of 216. The Holliday High product posted a tournament-best 14 birdies ranking among leaders in Par-3 (Even) and Par-4 (+2) scoring.
 
Fellow senior Thomas Smith posted team countable scores in two rounds logging tallies of 75, 74 and 77 to tie for 55th with a 10-over total of 226, while sophomore Clayton Meyers turned in three team countable rounds posting a 74, 76 and 77 to tie for 57th with an 11-over 227.
 
The Mustangs dominated the longer holes as Smith (-9), Meyers (-8), Haskins (-7) and Hobson (-6) combined to shoot 30-under on the course's five Par-5s.
 
The top two NAIA programs topped the team leader board as Texas Wesleyan won the tournament with a 15-under 849 followed by Oklahoma City (858/-6), Central Oklahoma (871/+7), Texas A&M-Commerce (873/+9), Dallas Baptist (874/+10) and MSU.
 
Texas Wesleyan's David Ravetto claimed top individual medalist honors shooting scores of 70, 71 and 70 for a 5-under total of 211 to edge Dallas Baptist's Chase Brincat by a single stroke.
 
Midwestern State closes regular season play next week in the Lions Classic hosted at the Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Ark.
