WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Texas Woman's slugged its way to a series win over Midwestern State Friday afternoon, recording 24 runs on 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep on Senior Day at Mustangs Park.
With the two losses, Midwestern State was denied a chance to make its 13th Lone Star Conference Tournament appearance being eliminated from postseason contention.
Between games, the Mustangs honored four-year letterwinners
Erin Knox,
Taylor Bermudes and
Jennifer Quintero in their final home appearances donning the Maroon and Gold. In four seasons, the trio helped the Mustangs to 103 victories, two LSC Tournament appearances and a NCAA Tournament showing in 2014.
GAME 1 RECAP
Texas Woman's took advantage of four Midwestern State errors to push across five unearned runs in a 10-8 win over the Mustangs in game one of Friday's doubleheader.
Texas Woman's (25-16, 13-9 LSC) pulled away from MSU in the fifth inning with four runs on five hits to break a 4-4 tie. An RBI double for Alexis Elizondo propelled the Pioneers to a 5-4 lead before a single up the middle for Morgan Harrison pushed the TWU advantage to 6-4. A double to right center for Nicole Nordie capped off the inning with two additional runs crossing the plate to double up the Mustangs.
Midwestern State (18-24, 9-17 LSC) cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run for
Erin Knox, her fourth of the season.
The Pioneers pushed two across in the seventh with a Tara Solomon double stretching the TWU lead to 10-6. The Mustangs rallied in their final at bat with
Kelsey Knox plating two on a single to right but MSU was unable to pull any closer.

Kelsey Knox driving in
Taylor Bermudes who singled earlier in the first.
TWU scored two runs on two errors in the top of the second while Solomon drove another in on a double to left for a 3-1 lead. However, the Mustangs responded in their half of the second with
Erin Knox delivering a bases loaded single to score one before the Mustangs added two more runs on a TWU error in the outfield to take a 4-3 lead. The Pioneers evened the game back up in the third after an infield error by the Mustangs.

GAME 2 RECAP
Texas Woman's blasted four home runs to overcome an early 2-0 hole with a combined 11 runs in the third and seventh innings to clinch a series win over Midwestern State with a 14-4 win in the finale.
Taylor Bermudes launched her third home run of the season in her final appearance at Mustangs Park with a two-run shot in the first inning to lift Midwestern State (18-25, 9-18 LSC) to an early lead.
However, Texas Woman's (26-16, 14-9 LSC) took control in the third with six runs on six hits, highlighted by a grand slam by Hazel Puempel and a two-RBI double for Harrison.
Walks for
Taylor Mordecai and
Misty Muniz and a single for
Kelcee Thompson loaded the bases for MSU with two outs before
Amanda Thomas earned a walk to drive in a run for the Mustangs in the third for a 6-3 game.
Puempel added her fifth RBI of the game in the fourth with a double to right field before a long ball for Nordie plated two more runs for the Pioneers for a 9-3 contest.
Amanda Thomas recorded MSU's second home run of the game in the sixth inning for her first homer of the season over the left field fence.
Back-to-back homers for Nordie and Tylia Sylestine helped the Pioneers to five runs in the seventh for a 14-4 final.
