THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State hits the road for Lone Star Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Texas A&M-Commerce at the John Cain Family Softball Field.
 
Due to expected rain in the area over the weekend, the series has been moved up to a doubleheader Friday beginning at 3 p.m. while the finale is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. in Commerce.
 
LAST TIME OUT
- Midwestern State earned a season sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State Tuesday in Goodwell with the Mustangs posting a 9-1 win in game one before overcoming a four-run deficit to record a 12-10 victory in game two
- In game one, junior catcher Amanda Thomas tied a career-high three hits as the Mustangs scored seven of their nine runs in the final two innings
- Senior pitcher/first baseman Erin Knox matched a program record with five hits in game two to help MSU post the second-most hits in a single game in school history with 20 in the comeback victory
- Knox became the fourth Mustang in program history to belt out five hits, joining Megan Chartier (2011), Kelly Schaefer (2013, 2x) and Katy Vandewater (2014)

A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State comes into the weekend with a 12-13 season record and 3-6 mark in the LSC for eighth in the conference standings
- Freshman center fielder Lauren Lindgren leads the Mustangs with a .365 batting average with 31 hits, 20 runs, 17 RBI, seven stolen bases and five home runs
- Erin Knox is hitting .338 for second on the squad with 23 hits, 12 runs, 12 walks and 11 RBI
- Sophomore Peyton Helton leads MSU in the circle with a 3.30 ERA and five wins this season, totaling a team-high 43 strikeouts in 74.1 innings
- Knox has compiled a 3.60 ERA and four wins in seven starts on the year, fanning 25 batters in 44.2 innings while holding opponents to a .246 average
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
- Texas A&M-Commerce carries a 12-8 overall record and 2-4 mark in LSC play for ninth in the league entering this weekend's series
- The Lions were swept in conference play at home last weekend by Cameron and have dropped five of their last seven games
- Junior outfielder Baylea Higgs paces the Lions with a .436 batting average with 24 hits, 17 stolen bases, 12 runs and seven RBI
- Sophomore infielder Ciera Nunez is adding a .375 clip for Commerce with a team-high 15 runs scored
- Junior catcher Mariah Jameyson leads the Lions with 24 RBI on seven doubles and three home runs while adding 22 hits and 12 runs on a .373 average
- In the circle, junior Selena Rima ranks second in the LSC with a 1.60 ERA in 30.2 innings
- Sophomore Katie Dean has seen the most action among the TAMUC pitching staff with 53.2 innings of work, compiling a 6-3 record and 3.00 ERA
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Midwestern State is 3-5 in the series against Texas A&M-Commerce
- The two teams split the series last season in Wichita Falls with the Mustangs taking the two first games and the Lions closing out the series with back-to-back wins
- Texas A&M-Commerce earned the series win back in 2015 in Commerce with the Lions claiming the final three games after an MSU victory in the first-ever meeting between the teams
