GOODWELL, Okla. – Senior
Erin Knox tied a single-game school record with five hits to lead six Mustangs with multiple-hit performances in Midwestern State's doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State Tuesday afternoon at Aggie Softball Field.
GAME 1 RECAP
Amanda Thomas tied a career-high three hits with two runs scored and two RBI to lead Midwestern State to a 9-1 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Midwestern State (11-13) built an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning.
Hannah Springs drove in the first run of the game with a single to right center before Thomas delivered an RBI single to center for a 2-0 MSU advantage.
Oklahoma Panhandle State (9-12) went on the board in the fifth inning on an RBI double to right center for Madison Heathington for a 2-1 game.
The Mustangs plated seven runs in the final two innings, scoring four runs in the sixth on three OPSU errors. Springs reached base on an error by the first baseman to bring in two MSU runs after
Taylor Mordecai had reached on an error and
Taylor Bermudes walked. A bases loaded walk for
Erin Knox brought in the third run of the frame for a 5-1 score before a sacrifice fly to center for
Carli Woolsey capped off the inning for a 6-1 advantage.
MSU added three more runs in the seventh on three hits and two OPSU errors with a Thomas single driving in the first run of the inning. Springs came around to score on the second error of the inning before a groundout to second by
Misty Muniz extended the lead to 9-1.

GAME 2 RECAP
Erin Knox tied a school record five hits in a 5-for-5 outing while collecting a win in the circle to lead Midwestern State to a come-from-behind 12-10 victory in game two.
Knox became just the fourth Mustang in school history to record five hits in a single game and the first since Katy Vandewater finished with five against Southern Arkansas on Feb. 3, 2014. Kelly Schaefer (twice in 2013) and Megan Chartier (2011) also accomplished the feat while wearing the Maroon and Gold.
Midwestern State's (12-13) 20 hits were one shy of setting the record of 21 recorded against Southern Arkansas back in Feb. 2014.
After Oklahoma Panhandle State (9-13) posted six runs on seven hits in the second, the Mustangs responded with a six-run third to take a 9-7 lead.

Taylor Bermudes blasted her second career grand slam to highlight the comeback.
The Mustangs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first with Erin and
Kelsey Knox driving in runs for MSU while
Lauren Lindgren added a run for the Mustangs in the second with an RBI single to center for a 3-1 lead.
In the fourth, a double to left by
Kelcee Thompson stretched the MSU advantage to 10-7 while a two-run home run by
Carli Woolsey in the fifth capped off the scoring for the Mustangs.
