Knox tosses two-hitter; Mustangs drop two to Lions Friday

THE RUNDOWN
COMMERCE, Texas – Senior Erin Knox threw a two-hitter in game two but Texas A&M-Commerce claimed the season series over Midwestern State with a doubleheader sweep Friday at John Cain Family Softball Field.
 
GAME 1 RECAP
Texas A&M-Commerce scored six runs on eight hits in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-1 victory over Midwestern State in the series opener Friday afternoon.
 
The Lions (13-8, 3-4 LSC) struck early with Kinsie Hebler bringing in Baylea Higgs on a one-out single to center for a 1-0 TAMUC advantage in the first.
 
Midwestern State (12-14, 3-7 LSC) evened the contest in the fourth inning on a Misty Muniz bases-loaded single to left field with one out. The Mustangs were unable to push across any more runs in the inning, leaving eight runners stranded for the game.
 
The Lions punched across three runs in the fifth with a leadoff home run by Precious Thompson giving TAMUC a 2-1 lead. RBI singles by Hebler and Mariah Jameyson stretched the score to 4-1 after five.
 
In the sixth, the Lions loaded the bases on three infield singles before Higgs came through with a three-RBI triple to left field for a 7-1 contest.
 
GAME 1 NOTES
Erin Knox and Kelcee Thompson each totaled two hits to lead the Mustangs
- Knox scored the run for MSU while Misty Muniz tallied one RBI
- Kinsie Hebler went 3-for-4 with two RBI while Baylea Higgs finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs for the Lions
- Peyton Helton (5-7) suffered the loss in the circle while Katie Dean (7-3) was credited with the win and Selena Rima (3) earned the save

GAME 2 RECAP
An RBI double to right center field for Chealsea Slider plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning to spoil a standout performance by Erin Knox in the circle and earn Texas A&M-Commerce a Friday sweep over Midwestern State with a 2-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
In the fourth inning, a one-out error in the MSU infield allowed Jordyn Sharp to stand on first before Tyler Oppenheim reached on a fielder's choice to Knox. Precious Thompson earned a two-out walk to put two runners on before Slider's double propelled Texas A&M-Commerce (14-8, 4-4 LSC) to a 2-1 lead on the Lions' second and last hit of the game. 
 
Midwestern State (12-15, 3-8 LSC) went in front in the third with Kelsey Knox delivering a two-out RBI single up the middle to plate Lauren Lindgren who reached base on an error to lead off the frame.

GAME 2 NOTES
- Four Mustangs recorded hits in the loss
- Erin Knox (4-5) was given the loss, giving up two hits and one earned run
- Chealsea Slider and Kinsie Hebler each posted one hit for the Lions
- Selena Rima (3-1) earned the win for TAMUC while Hebler collected her first save of the season
