WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Erin Knox tied a season-high six strikeouts in a 9-0 run-rule victory while
Peyton Helton tossed her third one-hitter of the season in a 4-0 shutout to lead Midwestern State to a series win over Cameron Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
With the Saturday sweep, the Mustangs earned their first series win over their Red River rivals since the 2013 season while collecting their second series victory of the 2017 campaign.
GAME 1 RECAP
Midwestern State put up six runs in the fourth to earn a 9-0 run-rule win in five innings to even the series in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
A two-run home run by
Taylor Mordecai lifted the Mustangs (13-17, 4-10 LSC) to a 2-0 advantage in the second inning with her second bomb of the season. Midwestern stretched its lead to 3-0 in the third after
Lauren Lindgren crossed the plate on an infield error by the Aggies on a double play attempt.
Lindgren began a two-out rally for the Maroon and Gold in the fourth inning with a RBI single to right field extending the MSU advantage to 4-0. RBI singles for
Taylor Bermudes and
Erin Knox added a pair of runs for the Mustangs before a three-run shot by
Carli Woolsey to left center field propelled MSU to a 9-0 lead to cap off an eight-hit frame for the Mustangs.
Erin Knox held Cameron (23-8, 11-3 LSC) to just four hits on the day in her second shutout of the season.

GAME 2 RECAP
Peyton Helton held Cameron hitless until the seventh inning to lead Midwestern State to a 4-0 shutout of the Aggies in the series finale.
Both teams combined for just two hits until the Mustangs (14-17, 5-10 LSC) erupted for four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth. A two-out error by Cameron center fielder Kaylyn Smith allowed MSU to plate four runs in the inning with
Hannah Springs moving to third on a routine fly ball.
Amanda Thomas came through in the next at bat with an RBI single through the left side for the first run of the game. After a Lindgren single, Bermudes followed with a hit up the middle to make it a 2-0 score. Knox then capped off the inning with a single up the middle to score a pair of runs for a 4-0 lead heading to the sixth.
Helton worked out of a bases loaded jam in the third inning after allowing three walks but a liner to Lindgren in center helped the Mustangs escape the frame.
Callie Busby spoiled Helton's no-hitter with a leadoff single through the right side in the seventh inning. However, Cameron (23-9, 11-4 LSC) was unable to get any offense going down the stretch with MSU recording its second shutout of the day.
GAME 2 NOTES
- Midwestern State posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since Feb. 19-20, 2015 (UT Permian Basin & Baker) and a pair of shutouts in the same day for the first time since Mar. 3, 2013 (Northeastern State & Oklahoma Panhandle State)
