Lions earn series sweep over Mustangs with 6-2 win in finale

THE RUNDOWN
COMMERCE, Texas – Kinsie Hebler threw six scoreless innings and Ciera Nunez went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Texas A&M-Commerce to a series sweep over Midwestern State with a 6-2 win in the finale Saturday afternoon at John Cain Family Softball Field.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce (15-8, 5-4 LSC) scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning on four hits with Vanessa Avina, Nunez and Mariah Jameyson tallying RBI to lift the Lions to a 4-0 lead.
 
The Lions extended their lead to 6-0 in the fourth with Nunez and Jameyson each bringing in a run for multiple-RBI games.
 
Hebler allowed just two hits through the first six innings of play before Carli Woolsey and Taylor Mordecai registered one-out singles to get the Mustangs offense going. A Misty Muniz walk loaded the bases for MSU before Amanda Thomas delivered a two-RBI single to center field to put the Mustangs on the board. However, Midwestern was unable to pull any closer down the stretch with the Lions taking the series sweep.

NOTES
- Five Mustangs recorded hits on the day
- Peyton Helton (5-8) was saddled with the loss in her complete game outing
- Mariah Jameyson joined Ciera Nunez with a multiple-hit outing with two hits and a team-high three RBI
- Kinsie Hebler (3-1) earned the win for the Lions with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings while Selena Rima collected a save with one strikeout in 0.2 innings of work
