Mustangs host Texas Woman's for Pink Out Game in season finale

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State concludes the 2016-17 season Saturday as the Mustangs host Texas Woman's in a Pink Out Game at 4 p.m. inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs will don pink jerseys for Saturday's game and will also sell $20 Pink Out T-shirts to raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT
Cameron snapped a tied game in the fourth quarter with a 14-4 run to propel the Aggies to an 82-78 victory at Aggie Gym Tuesday night in Lawton, Okla.
- The Aggies connected on 12 three-pointers with Savanna James leading three Aggies in double figures with 20 points
- Kristin Rydell scored 18 of her team-high 20 points in the first half, shooting 8-of-14 on the night with three triples
- Jennifer Arbuckle also reached double figures with 11 points while Whitney Taylor added 10
 
A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State comes into the season finale with an 8-17 overall record and 5-14 mark in LSC play
- The Mustangs are averaging 64.4 points per game and shooting 40.2 percent from the field this season
- MSU ranks second in the LSC with 15.3 assists per game while coming in third in shooting behind the arc with a 33.2 percentage
- Junior guard Whitney Taylor has led the Mustangs in scoring all season with 13.4 points per game on a 39.5 shooting clip
- Taylor is second in the LSC with 2.5 three-pointers per game with 62 triples this season to tie for the third most in a single season in program history
- Against Cameron, Taylor climbed into the top 10 in career three-pointers made with her 109th triple to rank ninth in the school record books
- Junior guard Kristin Rydell enters the season finale averaging 9.4 points with 41 triples for second on the squad
- Junior post Avery Queen ranks third in scoring for the Mustangs with 7.7 points per game, shooting 44.1 percent from the floor this season  
- Senior forward Jennifer Arbuckle has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games for 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds with a 46.5 shooting clip
- Off the bench, junior forward Micheline Mercelita leads MSU with 5.0 rebounds per game while adding 6.1 points on a team-high 50.9 shooting percentage
- Freshman guard Leanna James ranks second in the LSC with a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio and is fifth with 3.8 assists per game

THE JOHNSON ERA
- Noel Johnson is in her ninth season at the helm of the Midwestern State women's basketball program, leading the Mustangs to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2013-15
- Johnson has compiled a 126-123 career mark (.506) in her time at MSU, surpassing Kim Griffee (1984-92) for second on the program's all-time coaching wins list following her 121st victory on Dec. 31, 2016 against Texas Wesleyan
- Johnson now just sits behind Shannon Burks who recorded 132 wins in nine seasons at MSU from 1999-2008
- In 2013, Johnson was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Small College Coach of the Year after guiding the Mustangs to their first Lone Star Conference title in 11 years while advancing to the NCAA South Central Region finals with a 26-6 record
- Johnson earned LSC Coach of the Year accolades in 2012 after leading MSU to its first trip to the league's postseason tournament since 2003 with a 19-8 record and third-place finish in the LSC
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
- Texas Woman's locked up the sixth seed in next week's Lone Star Conference Tournament, coming in with a 17-10 record and 10-9 mark in LSC action
- The Pioneers stormed back from a 25-point third quarter deficit Thursday night at Cameron before recording a 103-90 victory in Aggie Gym
- Senior guard Kenesha Saygo leads the conference with 19.3 points per game, recording three 30-point games including a career-high 36 since the Pioneers last met the Mustangs on Jan. 19 in Denton
- Saygo is shooting 43.7 percent while leading TWU with 39 triples
- Senior forward Emily Spector comes in averaging 9.8 points on a 46.2 shooting clip for the Pioneers
- Junior forward Alexis Nezianya adds 8.2 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks with a 53.6 shooting percentage from the floor this season
- Head coach Beth Jillson carries a 155-127 record in her 10th season at Texas Woman's
 
LAST TIME VERSUS TEXAS WOMAN'S
- Junior guard Jasmine Richardson's layup with 2.6 seconds remaining lifted Midwestern State to a 66-65 victory over Texas Woman's at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton on Jan. 19
- The game featured six lead changes in the final six minutes with Richardson answering Bri'anna Gray's layup with 9.8 seconds to play to propel MSU back in front
- Kristin Rydell and Liz Cathcart each totaled 14 points for the Mustangs in the victory while Richardson finished with 12 points and Whitney Taylor added 11
- MSU shot 45.1 percent from the field compared to TWU's 42.6 percent
- The Pioneers outrebounded the Mustangs 42-29 but only managed six second chance points off 17 offensive boards
- TWU struggled from the free throw line, firing 14-of-29 for 48.3 percent
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Midwestern State holds a 35-23 lead in the all-time series against Texas Woman's dating back to 1975
- The Mustangs snapped a three-game losing skid to the Pioneers last month with their win in Denton with TWU having claimed four of the last six matchups
- MSU is 16-11 against the Pioneers at home and carry a 4-2 record against TWU in D.L. Ligon Coliseum since 2010
