WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State begins its quest for a third-straight Lone Star Conference Championship this weekend as the Mustangs play host to the two-day event at the MSU Tennis Center.
The No. 2 seed Mustangs begin action Friday at 2 p.m. against third-seeded Tarleton State in the LSC semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, top seed Cameron faces No. 4 Texas A&M-Kingsville later that day at 6 p.m. The semifinal winners will advance to the LSC Championship to be played Saturday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
– Midwestern State closed out the regular season with a 17-8 slate, defeating Arkansas-Fort Smith at home, 7-2, while falling to No. 16 Northeastern State, 6-3, on the road in last week's action

Scott Linn earned his 100th career win with the MSU women, pushing his record to 100-47 (.680) in six seasons with the Mustangs

– Midwestern State continued its climb up the Oracle/ITA Division II national team rankings Wednesday as the Mustangs earned a season-best ranking of No. 17 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association

MIDWESTERN REMAINS AT NO. 3 IN NCAA REGIONAL POLL
– Midwestern State stayed at No. 3 in the NCAA South Central Regional rankings for the second-straight week, released by the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Committee Wednesday afternoon
– St. Mary's remained atop the regional poll for the third-straight week with a perfect 12-0 regional record while Cameron (17-2) appeared at No. 2 in front of the Mustangs (12-3)
– Rounding out the regional poll was St. Edward's (10-4), Newman (11-6) and Tarleton State (9-5)
– Western New Mexico earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament last weekend
– The Heartland Conference will also receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament while the remaining top two teams in the region will receive an at-large bid to this year's regional tournament, set for May 7-10 at select campus sites across the country
– The top two teams out of the South Central Region will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 18-21, at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver, Colo.
LSC TOURNAMENT FIELD
CAMERON (NO. 1 SEED)
– The No. 1 seed Aggies enter the LSC Championship with a 19-3 overall record, currently ranked 15th in the Oracle/ITA Division II national poll and second in the South Central Region rankings
– Junior Paula Gutierrez, ranked 18th in the ITA singles rankings, carries a seven-match win streak into the championship to sit at 15-3 on the season at the No. 1 position
– Senior Alina Gorina ranks fifth in the South Central Region with a 17-3 dual record playing at No. 2 singles for the Aggies
– Freshman Zhenia Shviadok ties for the team lead in wins with an 18-3 mark at No. 3 to rank 15th in the region
– Senior Angie Torres also makes an appearance in the regional rankings at No. 20 with a 16-4 record playing at No. 4
– At the bottom of the lineup, sophomore Samantha Wood has recorded an 18-2 mark as the No. 5 player while sophomore Mathilde Thibaudat is 15-3 on the season playing at No. 6
– In doubles, the duo of Gorina and Shviadok top the regional poll and come in at No. 15 in the country with a 17-4 mark playing at the top spot this season, entering the championship on a 10-match win streak

MIDWESTERN STATE (NO. 2 SEED)
– Midwestern State comes into the weekend with a 17-8 record on the season to rank 17th nationally and third in the region
– Ranked 33rd nationally and second in the South Central Region, Schorlemmer has posted six wins over regionally-ranked opponents for a 14-8 dual record playing at the No. 1 position for the Mustangs this season

Greta Lazzarotto has compiled a 15-10 mark as the No. 3 singles player for the Mustangs to rank 18th in the regional rankings

Lauren Pineda posted a 14-3 mark for the Mustangs playing No. 4 singles while going 17-3 in doubles on court two
– Pineda will miss the LSC Championship but looks to make her return to the courts for the NCAA postseason

Lindsay Nochowicz has recorded a 12-6 mark for the Mustangs playing at No. 5 while junior
Abby White leads MSU with a 17-3 record at the bottom slot
– Schorlemmer joins Lazzarotto with 20 wins in doubles play this season with a 21-4 record at No. 3 while sophomore
Amy Clifton is nearing the 20-win plateau with an 18-3 mark playing with Pineda and Lazzarotto at No. 2
TARLETON STATE (NO. 3 SEED)
– Tarleton State enters the conference championship with a 13-7 season record and No. 6 ranking in the NCAA South Central Region rankings
– Sophomore Ashleigh Elward leads the TexAnns with a 14-6 dual record playing at the No. 1 position to rank eighth in the South Central Region
– Sophomore Erika Richarme has also put together a strong season for TSU with a 15-5 slate at No. 2 for a No. 12 ranking in the region
– The duo is 16-4 in doubles play this season for a No. 10 ranking in the region playing at court two
– In the middle of the lineup, junior Luiza Ferraro-Adas has posted a 12-8 mark at No. 3 while junior Ellie Stevens is 11-6 on the year playing at Nos. 4 and 5
– Junior Elena Preadca has compiled a 12-6 record playing mostly at No. 5 for the TexAnns while freshman Taylor Porter is 1-13 at No. 6
– Ferrado-Adas and Preadca join together to form the sixth-ranked doubles tandem in the region with a 13-7 mark on the season
– Head coach Lance Drake is in his 16th season with the TSU women's tennis program, leading the TexAnns to nine NCAA regional appearances
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE (NO. 4 SEED)
– Texas A&M-Kingsville is 5-15 on the season and ranked ninth in the ITA South Central Region rankings
– Senior Mariaxi Herrera is 13-7 this year playing at No. 1 singles with five wins over regionally-ranked opponents to rank sixth in the region
– At No. 2 singles, senior Marija Dimitrovska has posted a 12-8 record for the Javelinas
– Junior Nadia Grlj is 4-16 for TAMUK as the No. 3 singles player while senior Paula Saenz has posted a 7-6 dual record at No. 4
– At the bottom of the lineup, sophomore Erika Larrea is 7-12 overall at No. 5 while freshman Madi Gomez is 7-7 playing on court six
– Head coach Autumn Williams is in her second season with the Javelinas
SENIORS MAKING MOST OF FINAL SEASON
– Seniors
Lauren Pineda and
Maddie Schorlemmer will both end their Midwestern State careers as two of the top wins leaders in program history, having already reached 100 wins while donning the Maroon and Gold
– Pineda became the seventh Mustang in program history to earn career win No. 100 on Mar. 13 after a pair of victories over Colorado Mesa while Schorlemmer accomplished the feat on Apr. 6 with two wins over Tarleton State
– Pineda climbed into sole possession of fifth on the all-time wins list following two wins over Dallas Baptist on Apr. 2
– The Allen native currently sits with a 118-43 career record (.733) with a 70-26 doubles mark and 48-17 singles record to rank fourth on the doubles wins list and seventh in singles
– Schorlemmer moved into seventh on the all-time list after her wins over Tarleton State, currently carrying a record of 110-39 (.738)
– The Argyle native is sixth in career doubles wins at MSU with a 63-18 record while ranking ninth in singles with a 47-21 mark
– Lacey Wuthrich is the all-time wins leader at MSU, compiling a 138-44 record from 2002-05
– Wuthrich is followed by Emilee Black (135-47) and Brooke Gray (131-64), who both played for Midwestern State from 2000-03, and Sara Butler (129-27), who set the school record for winning percentage (.827) from 1999-2002
– Rounding out the 100-win club is Marsha Meyer (111-79), who suited up for the then-Lady Indians from 1998-2001, and
Taylor Coffman (100-72), who played from 2012-15
LINN EARNS WIN NO. 400
– Head coach
Scott Linn received a memorable win No. 400 last May when the MSU women's tennis team upset No. 12 California (Pa.) in the NCAA Sweet 16
– Linn enters his sixth season leading the MSU men's and women's tennis programs, guiding the Mustangs to a combined seven postseason appearances since taking over the programs in 2010-11
– Linn has posted a 93-44 record (.679) with the men's team while recording a 100-48 mark (.676) with the women for a combined 193-92 (.677)
– Since 1997-98, Linn has compiled a 432-271 (.615) career record in 15 seasons as a men's head coach (235-154, .604) and 12 seasons as a women's coach (197-117, .627), averaging close to 15 wins a season
– Prior to MSU, Linn served head coaching stints at Science & Arts. (Okla.), Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and Florida Southern while serving as a men's assistant coach at his alma mater, East Central (Okla.), and Indiana
