SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State used a four-run third inning to pull away from Midwestern State while out-hitting the Mustangs 13-7 to record an 8-3 series-opening win Saturday afternoon at Mayer Field.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom half of the third inning, second baseman Bailey Wallace evened up the game for Angelo State (23-15, 11-10 LSC) with an RBI single to right field. Left fielder Kenedy Urbany followed with a two-RBI double to center before first baseman Alexis Evans singled to left field to drive in the fourth run of the frame and put the Rambelles ahead 5-2.

Midwestern State (22-19, 7-10 LSC) went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first with senior center fielder Haley Howerton leading off with a double down the left field line. Howerton advanced to third on a fielder's choice by junior pitcher Erin Knox before coming home to score on the throw.

After ASU tied the game up at 1-1 in the second, a double for senior third baseman Katelyn Vinson drove in junior left fielder Taylor Bermudes, who singled in the previous at bat. Vinson and Bermudes each recorded a pair of hits to lead the Mustangs while Bermudes added two runs and Vinson posted two RBI for the day.

The Rambelles stretched their lead to as much as six following a pair of runs in the fourth and one run in the sixth before Vinson doubled for the second time in the Mustangs final at bat, scoring Bermudes once again, for a final 8-3 score.
