CANYON, Texas – St. Mary's pitcher Kristi Rangel tossed a two-hitter while the No. 12 Rattlers totaled nine runs in the second and third innings en route to a 9-0 run-rule victory in five innings over Midwestern State Friday afternoon at the WT Invitational.
After a scoreless first inning, St. Mary's (6-2) recorded a six-run frame in the second. A single, hit by pitch and a walk loaded the bases for the Rattlers before another hit batter brought in the first run for St. Mary's. A double by third baseman Hannah Michel drove in two more runs for the Rattlers before a three-run bomb from first baseman Sydney Wellmann capped off the inning.
Michel added two more RBI in the third with her second double of the game, helping the Rattlers to a three-run inning to grab a 9-0 advantage.
Midwestern State (5-7) was held off the base paths from the third inning on after senior center fielder
Haley Howerton and sophomore catcher
Amanda Thomas each recorded singles in the first and second innings, respectively.
Redshirt freshman pitcher
Peyton Helton was dealt the loss for MSU, throwing three innings in the circle.
Midwestern State continues play in the WT Invitational tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. against Chadron State at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
