Mustangs steal another last minute comeback victory

THE RUNDOWN
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Sophomore running back Adrian Seales' 13-yard touchdown run with 52 seconds lifted 12th-ranked Midwestern State to a 21-16 win over Tarleton State Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

MSU, which improved to 8-1 on the season and 7-1 in league play, can clinch at least a share of its fourth Lone Star Conference championship with win in the season finale against Eastern New Mexico next Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Mustangs won for a second-straight time in Stephenville and they did it the Midwestern way.

Senior quarterback Quade Coward engineered a game-winning drive which culminated with a winning score in the final minute for the fourth time this season.

The 5-play, 74-yard drive in 68 seconds washed away four turnovers as Coward worked his magic hitting Jaylen Mayo for 15 yards on a slant route and Statron Jones on a 29-yard bender  before Tarleton's Basil Jackson was whistled for targeting to set the Mustangs up at the TSU 15-yard line.

Three plays and two timeouts later, Seales burst untouched through the right side of the line for the winning score to cap off a career night with 131 yards on 21 carries.

It was redemption for Seales, who lost a fumble on MSU's previous drive, allowing the Texans regain a 16-15 lead on a 15-yard fade from Zed Werner to Del'Michael High with 2:06 to play.

Midwestern rallied from a 10-3 halftime deficit on the legs of sophomore Vincent Johnson, who ran for his 17th and 18th touchdowns as the Mustangs took a 15-10 lead into the fourth quarter.

Tarleton State fell to 5-5 on the season and 5-3 in the LSC.
