- Midwestern State takes on Southwest Baptist (Mo.) in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at the Surprise Racquet and Tennis Club. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
- The winner moves on to face the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) and Lynn (Fla.) in the semifinals Friday at 3 p.m.
MSU IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Midwestern State makes its fifth overall and third straight NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen appearance. The Mustangs claimed their first win at the finals site taking a 5-1 decision over 12th-ranked California (Pa.) on Wednesday night.
- With a win Thursday, the Mustangs would match the deepest advancement of any MSU athletic program during the NCAA Division II era equaling men's soccer in 2007 and 2010.
- MSU dropped a 5-0 decision last season to No. 5-ranked Hawaii Pacific and losing by the same score to top-ranked Barry (Fla.) in 2013. No. 3 West Florida defeated the Mustangs 5-0 in 2000, while No. 4 Barry took a 5-0 decision of MSU in 2005.
- Midwestern State is making its 15th appearance in the NCAA postseason.
- MSU boasts a 13-10 record in regional postseason play advancing to the regional final 13 times (5-8).
- The Mustangs earned their first NCAA postseason hosting opportunity in 2013 and repeated the honor in 2014 and 2015. Midwestern is 3-0 in the postseason while playing on its home surface.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
- Southwest Baptist (24-2) rides an eight-match winning streak into Thursday national quarterfinal showdown with Midwestern State.
- The Bearcats' only losses in 2015 came to Northeastern State (Okla.) by an 8-1 count on March 22 and to Drury (Mo.) on April 7. Midwestern State owns wins over both programs this season.
- Southwest Baptist edged MSU 5-4 on March 6 in Springfield.
- The Bearcats advanced to the NCAA II Championships by beating Arkansas Tech 5-1 in the Central Region 2 championship then beat No. 47-ranked Indianapolis (Ind.) 5-1 Wednesday night.
- SBU boasts a dynamic duo at the top of the order in senior Fanni Varga and junior Christina Zentai. The duo carries the No. 11 in the latest ITA national ratings.
- Varga is a 18-1 at the No. 1 singles post and is ranked 14th nationally, while Zentai is ranked 40th.
- Freshman Maria Josie Zehnder and sophomore Lani Tuemmers are ranked 8th and 15th in the Central Region.
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State and Southwest Baptist meet for the ninth time on the court Thursday in Surprise.
- The Mustangs own a 6-2 edge in the series which dates back to the 1999 season.
- Southwest Baptist has won the last two meetings by 5-4 counts in 2014 and 2015.

Taylor Coffman became the sixth player in MSU women's tennis history to amass 100 career victories by virtue of her 8-3 doubles win over California (Pa.)'s Jesse Burrell and Keifer Shaw Wednesday night with partner
Kayla Casey. She is currently 100-70 (.588) including a 41-40 singles mark and a 59-30 record in doubles play.

Paige Boykin is 18-4 this season with an 13-3 mark out of the No. 5 position. She has won her last five matches and 10 of the last 11.
