ON THE COURT
Midwestern State opens NCAA Division II Championship play with a Round of 16 match against No. 12-ranked California (Pa.) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. (Central Time) at the Surprise Racquet and Tennis Club. The winner moves on to face either Southwest Baptist (Mo.) or Indianapolis (Ind.) Thursday in the national quarterfinals.
 
MSU IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Midwestern State makes its fifth overall and third straight NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen appearance. The Mustangs are looking for the their first win at the finals site.
- MSU dropped a 5-0 decision last season to No. 5-ranked Hawaii Pacific and losing  by the same score to top-ranked Barry (Fla.) in 2013. No. 3 West Florida defeated the Mustangs 5-0 in 2000, while No. 4 Barry took a 5-0 decision of MSU in 2005.
- Midwestern State is making its 15th appearance in the NCAA postseason.
- MSU boasts a 13-10 record in regional postseason play advancing to the regional final 13 times (5-8).
- The Mustangs earned their first NCAA postseason hosting opportunity in 2013 and repeated the honor in 2014 and 2015. Midwestern is 3-0 in the postseason while playing on its home surface.
 
SCOUTING THE VULCANS
- California (Pa.) rides a six-match winning streak into the NCAA Division II and has won 14 of its last 15 dating back to a pair of Division I losses to West Virginia (4-0) and Towson State (7-0). The Vulcans have not lost to a Division II opponent this season.
- California (Pa.) have swept their last four opponents including two in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament -- Bloomsburg (5-0) and Indiana (Pa.) (5-0) -- before routing West Virginia State 5-0 in the Atlantic Region #1 championship.
- Sophomore Kiefer Shaw leads the Vulcans with a 8-4 dual record at the No. 1 position. She is ranked 27th in Division II national singles and is No. 1 in the Atlantic Region.
- Senior Ramona Czakon (9-3) is sixth in the Atlantic Region playing at No. 2 singles, while freshman Lena Dimmer is 14th with a 12-3 primarily at No. 3 singles.
- California (Pa.) boasts a 40-13 overall dual mark (.755) in doubles with three teams carrying regional rankings.
- Shaw teams with senior Jesse Burrell to forge the nation's No. 12-ranked duo combining for an 8-5 duals mark this spring for the Vulcans.
- Czakon and sophomore Mariela Sarinana chalked up an 11-3 duals mark at the No. 2 position to earn the region's No. 5 rankings, while  Dimmer and sophomore Veronika Mikulis are 10-2 playing primarily out of the No. 3 spot for a No. 7 regional ranking.

- Midwestern State and California (Pa.) meet for the first time on the court Wednesday night at the Surprise Racquet and Tennis Club.
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State carries its highest national ranking into the 2015 NCAA postseason ranked 14th in the latest ITA Division II Rankings.
- Senior Taylor Coffman and junior Kayla Casey are the 25th-ranked doubles tandem in NCAA Division II and are ranked fourth in the South Central Region.
- Juniors Lauren Pineda and Lindsay Nochowicz are ranked ninth in the region.
- MSU boasts four singles players carrying regional rankings including junior Kayla Casey at No. 5, senior Taylor Coffman at No. 9, junior Maddie Schorlemmer at No. 11 and sophomore Courtney Anderson at No. 13.
 
MILESTONES
- Senior Taylor Coffman is one duals win away from becoming the sixth player in MSU women's tennis history to amass 100 career victories. She is currently 99-70 (.586) including a 41-40 singles mark and a 58-30 record in doubles play.
 
MUSTANGS NOTABLES
- Midwestern State has won its last 10 matches against NCAA Division II squads and is 15-4 against D2 opponents this season.
- The Mustangs are 8-4 against nationally ranked opponents this season and 14-4 against regionally ranked.
- MSU is 27-4 on its home courts over the last three seasons.
- The Mustangs have dominated doubles play this season posting an overall 51-17 mark (.750).
- No. 25-ranked Taylor Coffman and Kayla Casey have won their last six matches at the No. 1 position and are 14-6 overall.
- Regionally-ranked Lindsay Nochowicz and Lauren Pineda have won their last five and 10 of the last 11 at the No. 2 spot with an overall 15-6 record.
- Junior Maddie Schorlemmer and sophomore Paige Boykin have reeled off 12 consecutive wins at the No. 3 spot and are 18-4 as a doubles' pair.
- Sophomore Courtney Anderson boasts the longest current singles winning streak taking 11-straight dating back to a loss to West Florida's Kat Dikosavljevic on March 17. Anderson has won 24 of 27 sets during the run.
- Freshman Carrie Casey has not lost a set to a Division II player this season with a 7-0 singles mark on the strength of a six-match winning streak. Casey's lone loss came to SMU's Holly Verner on Feb. 15.
- Sophomore Paige Boykin is 17-4 this season with an 12-3 mark out of the No. 5 position. She has won her last four matches and nine of the last 10.
 
ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS
- Midwestern State juniors Kayla Casey and Maddie Schorlemmer were named to the first team while senior Taylor Coffman and sophomore Courtney Anderson gained honorable mention in singles.
- Kayla Casey and Taylor Coffman earned first-team doubles mention while Lauren Pineda and Lindsay Nochowicz gained honorable mention.
- Nochowicz earned LSC Co-Newcomer of the Year accolades after transferring in from Tampa (Fla.).
 
THE LINN ERA
- Scott Linn is in his fifth season at the helm of the Midwestern State women's tennis program.
- The Mustangs are 82-39 (.678) under Linn's direction advancing to the NCAA Division II postseason in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
