SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
- Angelo State has lost 12 of its last 14 games with wins coming against winless Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas Woman's.
- Junior center Diamalises Rivera is averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 45-of-78 (57.7 percent) from the floor over the last seven games including a pair of 20-point efforts against Cameron (23 points, 6 rebounds) and Eastern New Mexico (22 points, 7 rebounds).
- Junior guard Amanda Weaver is ASU's leading active scoring averaging 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. She has scored in double figures in seven games this season including a season-high of 25 points with six 3-pointers against Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 11.
- Junior guard Leila Jdily-Ezzad matched a season-high with 11 points before fouling out in 21 minutes Sunday against Texas A&M-Commerce. She has started the last six games for the Rambelles.
- Junior guard Elaine Herrera erupted for a season-high 11 points while connecting on three treys Sunday against Texas A&M-Commerce.
- Freshman guard KeAnna Kelly poured in 23 points on 6-of-15 shooting with three triples to lead Angelo State to a 64-58 win over Texas Woman's Saturday at home.
- Kelly is averaging 16.3 points per game over her last six outings.
- Cayla Petree is 21-29 (.420) in her second season at the helm of the Angelo State women's basketball program.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State meets Angelo State for the 58th time on the hardwood Wednesday  night at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
- The Rambelles hold a slim 29-28 edge in the series which dates back to the 1978-79 season, but the Mustangs have won the last three meetings and five of the last six.
- MSU is going for just its third regular season sweep of the Rambelles since joining the Lone Star Conference in 1996-97. The Mustangs also achieved the feat in 1996-97 and 2013-14.
- Angelo State is 19-6 all time against the Mustangs in games played in San Angelo, but Midwestern has claimed victory in each of its last two excursions into the Concho Valley.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. ANGELO STATE
- Midwestern State snapped a two-game skid taking a 69-61 win over Angelo State on Jan. 21 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, while sending the Rambelles to a sixth-straight loss.
- Senior forward Andrea Carter notched a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds going 4-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe.
- Senior guard Dianna Jones returned from injury to score 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting while connecting on 6-of-8 free throws.
- Angelo State senior Michelle Rosewell connected on 5-of-6 shots from the field including three 3-pointers for a season-high 13 points, while freshman guard Shauna Coleman also scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds off of the bench.
 
MUSTANGS NOTEBOOK
- Midwestern State split a pair of Lone Star Conference games falling at West Texas A&M 59-55 Wednesday in Canyon before beating Eastern New Mexico 94-46 Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- The Mustangs are a win away from posting their sixth 20-win season since joining NCAA Division II in 1996-97.
- Midwestern rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit to pull within a single point with 7:46 to play Wednesday against West Texas A&M.
- The Mustangs have trailed by double digits in four games this season and are 1-3 in those games.
- MSU is 19-0 when scoring more than 60 points this season and 0-4 in games when it doesn't.
- The Mustangs' 48-point win over Eastern New Mexico was the largest since beating Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.) 101-26 in 2010-11.
- The 48-point margin of victory was the largest by MSU against a Lone Star Conference opponent since it joined the league in 1996-97.
- Midwestern State held West Texas A&M to a season low scoring output of 59 points Wednesday night in Canyon.
- The Mustangs' 13-point first half against WT marked its lowest output in a half since scoring 12 against Cameron in a 67-51 loss on Dec. 13, 2010 at Cameron.
- Senior forward Andrea Carter (Angleton, Texas / Angleton HS) narrowly missed her 10th double-double of the season twice last week going for nine points and 10 rebounds against West Texas A&M before scoring a team-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds in 18 minutes Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.
- Carter needs 20 rebounds to become the second player in MSU history to snag 1,000 career rebounds.
- Carter needs six points move past former teammate Kirsti Degelia (1,396 points/2010-14) and Lounette Adkins (1,395 points/1978-79, 80-81, 93-95) into sixth place on the school's all-time scoring list.
- Senior guard Dianna Jones (Hewitt, Texas / Midway HS) matched a career-high knocking down four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.
- With four assists last week, Jones moved past Lisa Meurer (339 assists/1977-81) into fourth on the school's all-time assists chart with 341.
- Jones also moved into 18th on the all-time scoring list with 1,033 points passing Emily Dill (1,029 points/1990-94).
- Senior guard Janae McJunkins (Wagoner, Okla. / Wagoner HS (Murray State)) knocked down three second-half triples Wednesday to spur MSU's second half comeback to finish with nine points against West Texas A&M.
- Senior forward Taylor Dowd (Valley View, Texas / Valley View HS) matched a career-high with 16 points going 7-for-10 from the field Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.
- Dowd has scored in double figures in three of her last five games.
- Senior guard Shatoia Gober (Waco, Texas / Midway HS) has gone for seven steals in her last two games.
- Sophomore forward Destiny Means (Duncanville, Texas / Duncanville HS (UTSA)) scored five points and blocked a season-high four shots Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.
 
THE JOHNSON ERA
- Noel Johnson is in her seventh season at the helm of the Midwestern State basketball program.
- Johnson boasts a 109-81 record (.574) while leading the Mustangs to the NCAA Division II postseason in each of the last two seasons including a trip to the South Central Region finals in 2013.
- Johnson reached milestone victory No. 100 with a 61-47 win over Texas Woman's University on Jan. 1, 2015 in Denton.
- Midwestern claimed its first NCAA postseason tournament wins taking down Tarleton State and Metro State (Colo.) in 2013 before falling to No. 4 Colorado Mesa in the regional final.
- Johnson led the Mustangs to its first Lone Star Conference championship in 12 seasons claiming the 2012-13 title.
- Johnson garnered Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012 before earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Small College Coach of the Year accolades in 2013.
