ON THE COURT
Midwestern State goes for its 12th straight win Sunday afternoon against Eastern New Mexico at Greyhound Arena. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (Central Time).
 
ABOUT THE ZIAS
- Eastern New Mexico dropped its Lone Star Conference opener Wednesday night at Cameron and has lost two straight after claiming three consecutive wins over Texas A&M International, Northern New Mexico and Florida Southern.
- The Zias are playing in just their third home game on their home floor this season taking a close loss to Fort Lewis (59-56) before beating Northern New Mexico (72-57). ENMU also defeated Texas A&M International 74-70 in Clovis.
- Eastern New Mexico lost three exhibition games against Division I opponents -- New Mexico (61-49), Texas-El Paso (84-49) and New Mexico State (79-51).
- Senior forward Tori Tucker leads the ENMU attack averaging 13.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She has scored in double figures seven times this season including three 20-point efforts. The Portales native splashed in a season-high 25 against Western New Mexico.
- Junior guard Sarah Stinnett has scored 10-or-more points in each of her last five games and in seven of her last eight to up her season scoring average to 10.6 points per game.
-  Senior post Jasmine Johnson adds 7.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while junior guard Jaylyn Cooper chips in 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds a contest.
- Josh Prock is in his second season at the helm of the Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team posting a 9-27 mark (.250). Prock posted a 108-31 record (.777) over the previous five seasons at Howard Payne (Texas) to combine for a 127-58 overall collegiate coaching record (.686).
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 41st time on the hardwood Sunday afternoon at Greyhound Arena.
- The Mustangs own a 23-17 edge in the series which dates back to the 1985-86 season.
- MSU has won eight of the last nine match ups between the programs, but has had a tough time in Portales.
- The Mustangs are 4-3 against ENMU at Greyhound Arena during the Noel Johnson era, but the victories have come by the narrowest of margins. MSU defeated the Zias 64-59 during the 2008-09 season. The other three wins have come by average of two points including a 68-67 decision in 2010-11, a 70-67 win in OT in 2011-12 and a 71-69 victory last season.
- Eastern New Mexico is 10-9 all time against Midwestern in games played in Portales.
 
MUSTANGS NOTEBOOK
- Midwestern State matched the second longest winning streak in program history Wednesday night by claiming a 77-64 win over No. 3-ranked West Texas A&M for its 11th straight victory. The streak matches 11-game runs during the 1979-80 and 2012-13 seasons. MSU won 15 consecutive games from Jan. 5-Feb. 14, 1994.
- It is the longest streak since MSU won 11 consecutive games from Jan. 3-Feb. 9, 2013. That season the Mustangs advanced to the South Central Region championship game.
- The Mustangs matched the best start in program history at 12-1 originally set during the 1989-90 season. That year, MSU lost its next game to Texas Wesleyan (70-68) to fall to 12-2.
- Midwestern State also took down its highest ranked opponent in the USA Today Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Top 25 with a 77-64 victory over No. 3 West Texas A&M Wednesday night in D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The previously highest ranked victim was No. 11-ranked Washburn (Kan.) by a 68-53 margin on Nov. 19, 2011 -- also at Ligon Coliseum.
- The Mustangs are 7-52 against ranked opposition since the start of the 1996-97 season. MSU was 0-20 against Top 10 opponents prior to Wednesday night and is now 2-33 against teams ranked in the Top 25 since the start of the 2004-05 season.
- The Mustangs rank 16th in NCAA Division II in free throw percentage (76.3) and 18th in blocked shots per game (4.7).
- MSU ranks second in the Lone Star Conference in scoring offense (71.1), scoring defense (59.7) and scoring margin (11.4).
- The Mustangs rate second in the LSC in rebound margin (+6.3), while topping the league in turnover margin (2.23) and blocked shots (4.54).
- Senior forward Andrea Carter (Angleton, Texas / Angleton HS) narrowly missed her seventh double-double of the season going for 17 points and nine rebounds Wednesday night against West Texas A&M.
- Carter has connected on 11-of-17 (.647) over the last two games to raise her season field goal percentage to .391.
- Senior guard Dianna Jones (Hewitt, Texas / Midway HS) battled her way to a 10-point outing Wednesday night against West Texas A&M. It was her 12th consecutive game scoring in double figures.
- Jones leads the Mustangs in scoring average with 14.5 points per game while dishing out a team-high 3.6 assists.
- Senior forward Shambreka Jones (Mesquite, Texas / Poteet HS (Charleston Southern)) has scored in double figures in each of her last five games. The Mesquite native is averaging 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game during the stretch while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 72.7 percent from the charity stripe.
- Jones tops the Lone Star Conference with 2.2 blocked shots per game recording swats in 12 of 13 games this season. She has recorded at least two blocks in 10 contests.
- Senior guard Shatoia Gober (Waco, Texas / Midway HS) erupted for 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists Wednesday against West Texas A&M. It was her first double-digit scoring effort since going for a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Dec. 3.
- Senior guard Lisa Hampton (Kennedale, Texas / Nolan Catholic HS) bombed in three more 3-pointers to finish with 13 points for the second consecutive game.
- Hampton ranks second in the LSC in 3-point field goal percentage (.462) and is third in the LSC with 2.8 made 3s per game.
- Hampton has now made 119 career 3-pointers and trails only Andrea Buben (132 3s from 2006-10) and Kristin Ramsey (125 3s from 2000-04) on MSU all-time made 3-pointers list.
- Senior guard Janae McJunkins (Wagoner, Okla. / Wagoner HS (Murray State)) splashed in a season-high eight points and dished out three assists Wednesday night against West Texas A&M.
 
THE JOHNSON ERA
- Noel Johnson is in her seventh season at the helm of the Midwestern State basketball program.
- Johnson boasts a 102-78 record (.567) while leading the Mustangs to the NCAA Division II postseason in each of the last two seasons including a trip to the South Central Region finals in 2013.
- Johnson reached milestone victory No. 100 with a 61-47 win over Texas Woman's University on Jan. 1, 2015 in Denton.
- Midwestern claimed its first NCAA postseason tournament wins taking down Tarleton State and Metro State (Colo.) in 2013 before falling to No. 4 Colorado Mesa in the regional final.
- Johnson led the Mustangs to its first Lone Star Conference championship in 12 seasons claiming the 2012-13 title.
- Johnson garnered Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012 before earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Small College Coach of the Year accolades in 2013.
