ON THE COURT
Midwestern State takes on Angelo State in Lone Star Conference action Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
- Angelo State has lost its last five games -- all Lone Star Conference matchups -- heading into Wednesday night's meeting with Midwestern State.
- The Rambelles are 1-4 in true road games this season with the lone victory coming at McMurry.
- ASU has lost its last 10 games against Lone Star Conference competition dating back to a 60-55 win over Tarleton State on Feb. 12, 2014 in San Angelo.
- The Rambelles are shooting 36.3 percent from the floor over the last five games.
- Sophomore guard Jasmine Caston paces the ASU attack scoring 14.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures in 12 of 15 games including three performances of 20-or-more with a season-high of 26 set against Colorado State-Pueblo.
- Junior guard Amanda Weaver drops in 10.7 points per game scoring 10.7 points per game. The sharpshooter connects at a 42.9-percent clip from the arc and knocked down six triples on her way to a season-high 25 points against Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 11.
- Cayla Petree is in her second season at the helm of the Angelo State women's basketball program. She has posted a 19-23 record (.452).
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State and Angelo State meet for the 58th time on the hardwood Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- The Rambelles own a slim 29-28 edge in the series which dates back to the 1978-79 season, but MSU has won five of the last six meetings between the teams including a sweep of the three games played last season.
- The Mustangs are 20-9 all time against Angelo State in games played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
MUSTANGS NOTEBOOK
Midwestern State dropped a pair of Lone Star Conference games to Tarleton State and Texas Woman's to fall to 13-3 on the season and 4-3 in league play.
- The losses snapped the second longest winning streak in program history at 12 games.
- The Mustangs are off to the second best start through 16 games at 13-3 as the 1989-90 squad rolled out to a 14-2 mark.
- MSU continues to boast the top scoring defense in the Lone Star Conference allowing 58.8 points per game.
- Senior forward Andrea Carter (Angleton, Texas / Angleton HS) is averaging 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds over her last five games while shooting .556 from the field.
- Carter has scored in double figures in each of her last five outings.
- Carter dropped in a game-high 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds Sunday against Texas Woman's.
- Carter his currently third on MSU's all-time rebounding chart with 913 boards and needs 27 rebounds to move past Serena Carter (939 rebounds from 1989-93) to move into second.
- Senior forward Shambreka Jones (Mesquite, Texas / Poteet HS (Charleston Southern)) logged her first double-double of the season going for 13 points and 10 rebounds Sunday against Texas Woman's.
- Jones grabbed 10 rebounds in each of MSU's games last week against Tarleton State and Texas Woman's.
- Jones leads the LSC with 2.1 blocks per game and has recorded at least two blocks in 13 of 16 games this season.
- Senior guard Dianna Jones (Hewitt, Texas / Midway HS) has scored at least 10 points in each of her last 14 games, but missed Sunday's game against Texas Woman's due to injury.
- Senior guard Janae McJunkins (Wagoner, Okla. / Wagoner HS (Murray State))scored a season-high 10 points Wednesday at Tarleton State, then had six points and six rebounds in her first start of the season Sunday against Texas Woman's.
- Senior guard Lisa Hampton (Kennedale, Texas / Nolan Catholic HS) knocked down her 121st career 3-pointer Wednesday night at Tarleton State and remains third on MSU's all-time made 3-pointers list trailing only Andrea Buben (132 3s from 2006-10) and Kristin Ramsey (125 3s from 2000-04).
- Senior guard Shatoia Gober (Waco, Texas / Midway HS) has grabbed at least five rebounds in each of her last 10 games.
 
THE JOHNSON ERA
- Noel Johnson is in her seventh season at the helm of the Midwestern State basketball program.
- Johnson boasts a 103-80 record (.563) while leading the Mustangs to the NCAA Division II postseason in each of the last two seasons including a trip to the South Central Region finals in 2013.
- Johnson reached milestone victory No. 100 with a 61-47 win over Texas Woman's University on Jan. 1, 2015 in Denton.
- Midwestern claimed its first NCAA postseason tournament wins taking down Tarleton State and Metro State (Colo.) in 2013 before falling to No. 4 Colorado Mesa in the regional final.
- Johnson led the Mustangs to its first Lone Star Conference championship in 12 seasons claiming the 2012-13 title.
- Johnson garnered Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012 before earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Small College Coach of the Year accolades in 2013.
