Midwestern State travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., for Sunday's contest at Ouachita Baptist. The game is a regional contest for both schools. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ouachita Baptist comes into the game with an 0-4 record, 0-2 in the Great American Conference, after dropping a 65-55 decision at Southeastern Oklahoma State on Nov. 23. Coach Garry Crowder's Tigers are led by senior guard Nashia James of Pine Bluff, Ark./Watson Chapel who's averaging 15.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.3 assists a game. James is also hitting nearly two 3-pointers a game. Sophomore guard/forward Breanna Harris of Bryant, Ark./Pulaski Academy adds 11.0 points a game, while connecting on 1.7 3-point field goals a game, and senior forward Elise Holman of Berryville, Ark. adds 9.0 points, with 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists an outing. Junior guard Ashley Johnson of Sherwood, Ark./Sylvan Hills adds 7.5 points with 6.0 rebounds. OBU is averaging 61.0 points a contest, while allowing opponents 72.8 points a game.

ABOUT THE SERIES
This is just the second meeting between Midwestern State and Ouachita Baptist with MSU holding a 1-0 series lead. Midwestern won the only meeting between the teams 83-65 on Nov. 19, 1998 in Arkadelphia.

LAST TIME OUT VS. OBU
Midwestern State met then Lone Star Conference member Ouachita Baptist in a crossover game on Nov. 19, 1998 at Bill Vining Arena and came away with an 83-65 win. Freshman Lindy Lombard, the future MSU Hall of Honor performer in just her second Midwestern game, led the team with 14 points in the win, while Toni Westfall came off the bench with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Shannon Boase had 11 points with nine boards and J.J. Anderson 11 points. TeNay Garrett also grabbed a dozen rebounds in the contest. Jennifer Edwards led OBU with a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards.

 
 

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is at 4-3 on the season. Coach Noel Johnson's Mustangs started the season at number 10, but early season troubles have scuttled the ranking. The Mustangs are led by All-America junior forward Andrea Carter who is averaging 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds with 2.1 steals and 1.0 assist per game. Junior guard Dianna Jones adds 11.6 points a game to go with her 4.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.61 assist-turnover ratio. Senior guard Kirsti Degelia adds 9.9 points with 1.1 three-pointers a game, to go with 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals. Junior guard Shatoia Gober chalks up 8.6 points a contest, as she pulls down 5.1 rebounds with 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals, while junior guard Lisa Hampton chips in 7.1 points, hitting 1.6 treys a contest. MSU averages 71.9 points a contest, while allowing 70..

LAST TIME OUT
The Mustangs bounced back from a loss last Saturday by taking out McMurry 79-59 on Tuesday night in Abilene. The Mustangs broke open a tight game with an 18-3 run in the second half and never looked back. Dianna Jones led the way with 21 points, going 8-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the foul line with three steals. Andrea Carter scored 14 points with six boards and six steals and Shatoia Gober tallied 12 points with eight rebounds and two assists. Kirsti Degelia nearly double-doubled with nine points and eight assists. MSU shot 50 percent from the field (28-of-56) and 68 percent from the foul line (23-of-34), but failed to score a 3-point field goal (0-of-4).

MSU UNDER NOEL JOHNSON
Noel Johnson is 76-68 in her sixth year as the head coach of the Mustangs. She was the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 after turning the program around with a 19-8 season, then earned the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Small College Coach of the Year award for leading MSU to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 with a 26-6 record and the Lone Star Conference Championship.

MSU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Midwestern State started the season at number 10 in the WBCA's USA Today Sports Division II Top 25, but early losses dropped them to the first team receiving votes the last two weeks. This week's poll marks the 20th time MSU has received votes in the WBCA poll.

THREE...DOT...THOUGHTS...
The Mustangs answered their lowest scoring output of the season at Emporia with the second-highest scoring output of the year at McMurry as they collected 79 pointswhile holding the War Hawks to the second-lowest amount allowed this season at 59...The Mustangs went 0-for-4 from the 3-point arc against McMurry, marking the first time since Jan. 22, 2011 that MSU had not scored a 3-point basket in a game. MSU was 0-of-8 at Incarnate Word in that game…The game at OBU concludes a three-game road swing as the Mustangs play at home again on Thursday, Dec. 5 to open Lone Star Conference play with Texas Woman's at D.L. Ligon Coliseum…For just the second time this season, MSU outrebounded an opponent by bettering McMurry 37-30 (+7) on the boards. MSU also outrebounded Colorado State-Pueblo 39-31 (+8)...Midwestern is being outrebounded an average of 4.9 boards a game (31.6 to 36.4). MSU hasn't been outrebounded in a season since the 2007-08 campaign…MSU's defense has paced the Mustangs on a +5.7 turnover margin (12.4 giveaways per game to 18.1 takeaways)…Junior guard Dianna Jones of Hewitt, Texas/Midway posted her season-high and matched Andrea Carter's team season-high with 21 points at McMurry. She did so by hitting 8-of-8 from the floor, with her only miss at the line -- she went 5-of-6...Senior guard Kristi Degelia of Denton, Texas/Krum nearly double-doubled with nine points and eight assists against the War Hawks...Junior guard Shatoia Gober of Waco, Texas/Midway just missed a double-double again with 12 points and eight rebounds vs. McMurry...Junior forward Andrea Carter of Angleton, Texas, scored 14 points against and swiped six steals from the War Hawks, a new team high on the season...
