Hennan, Mustangs shut down ACU in Game 1, 7-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State freshman Brenna Hennan dazzled Abilene Christian for her second shutout of the season to lead the Mustangs to a 7-0 win here in Game 1 Saturday afternoon.

The Burkburnett product weaved a six-hitter to extend her home shutout streak to 14 innings, which includes a 2-0 shutout of Cameron on April 10. Hennan improved to 6-10 on the season.

The Mustangs took control of the game on consecutive run-scoring singles by Mallory Mooney and Christina Roosmalen in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

The tacked on single runs in the second, third and fifth innings before Mooney laced a 2-run single up the middle push the lead to 7-0.

Hennan fanned three batters while stranding two ACU runners in four different innings with the help of errorless play in the field.

Roosmalen paced the Mustangs' 11-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Mooney was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to run her MSU career-leading total to 181.

Madison Buckley accounted for three of the six hits for the Wildcats, who fell to 28-15 and 14-11.

ACU starter Caitlyn Crain took the loss to fall to 13-6 allowing four runs - three earned - on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Midwestern improved to 25-23 on the season and to 15-11 in league play.

The series concludes with a third game Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
