WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State closed out the regular season with an 8-3 loss to Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon in Lone Star Conference play at Mustangs Park.
MSU (25-24) will head into the LSC Postseason Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will open with Tarleton State Friday at Pioneer Field in Denton. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m.
The winner advances to face the Texas Woman's/Incarnate Word victor Saturday at noon with the championship game of the single elimination bracket following that evening at 6 p.m.
Abilene Christian (29-15) chased MSU starter
Lindsi Glenn with six runs in the second inning highlighted by a two-run blast by Brianna Fowlkes as the Wildcats strung together six straight hits while sending 11 hitters to the plate into take a 6-1 lead.
Glenn would take the loss to fall to 19-13 allowing six runs on nine hits in the two innings before giving way to
Brenna Hennan, who allowed two runs on five hits in five innings of relief.
The Mustangs had jumped out to a 1-0 lead on
Mallory Mooney's RBI single in the first inning for their only lead of the contest.
ACU added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before MSU plated an unearned in the sixth.
Sophomore catcher
Kim Jerrick led off the seventh with a drive over the left-field fence for her ninth home run of the season.
Jerrick paced the Mustangs' 12-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI while
Elena Bennett,
Christina Roosmalen and
Kelley Schaefer added two hits each.
Madison Buckley and Lyndi Smith had three hits each to lead the Wildcats, while Shelby Hall improved to 5-2 in the circle allowing three runs - two earned - while scattering 12 hits.

- Midwestern State guaranteed a ninth consecutive campaign with a .500-or-better record by taking 2-of-3 from Abilene Christian. The Mustangs can clinch a winning campaign with a win over Tarleton State in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament next Friday.
- Freshman pitcher Brenna Hennan extended her string of home shutout innings to 15 before surrendering a run Lyndi Smith's infield single in the fourth inning. Hennan had pitched a 2-0 shutout against Cameron on April 10 and delivered a 7-0 blanking of ACU earlier Saturday.
- Junior first baseman Christian Roosmalen extended her team-best hitting streak to eight games with a pair of multiple-hit games against Abilene Christian on Saturday. She is hitting .567 (17-for-30) during the stretch with three doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs.
- Catcher Kim Jerrick became the first player in MSU history to amass 20 home runs in her freshman and sophomore campaigns when she connected for her ninth homer of 2012 in the seventh inning of Game 2 Saturday against Abilene Christian. Former standout catcher Rachael Jackson hit 19 homers during her frosh and soph campaigns in 2004 and 2005. Jerrick became just the seventh MSU player to hit 20 career home runs.
- Junior center fielder Elena Bennett legged out three hits to move into third place on MSU all-time hit list with 216. She needs 55 more to pass Kristen Stonecipher for the most career safeties in program history. Stonecipher had 270 from 2005-08.
