Midwestern State drops 9-7 decision at West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M's Kimberly LeComte lined her second home run for a two-run walk off shot in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the 14th-ranked Lady Buffs to a 9-7 win over Midwestern State 9-7 here Sunday afternoon.
 
WT completed the series sweep to improve to 15-7 on the season and to 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play while the Mustangs fell to 12-13 and 2-4.
 
LeComte, who had another two-run blast in the fifth inning, led a 10-hit WT attack as Alyssa Lemos launched a pair of solo homers and Allie Cranfill added another long ball in the sixth inning.
 
The Mustangs surged to a 4-3 lead when Carey Campbell scored on Mallory Mooney's RBI groundout in the fourth inning. Mooney also accounted for a pair of doubles to finish the day going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
 
West Texas A&M answered with three runs in the fifth inning before Midwestern rallied to tie the game at 7-7 on Mooney's two-run double in the sixth and Christina Roosmalen's RBI single in the seventh.
 
But Mallory Wyatt opened the bottom of the seventh with single up the middle and scored on LeComte's blast to right center field.
 
MSU's Brenna Hennan took the loss to fall to 1-6 allowing nine runs on 10 hits with five walks in the complete game.
 
Midwestern State returns to action with a three-game series at Angelo State next Friday and Saturday.
