West Texas A&M sweeps Mustangs in Canyon

CANYON, Texas - No. 14 West Texas A&M crushed seven homers and three grand slams to sweep a Lone Star Conference doubleheader 13-5 and 13-5 Saturday afternoon at Lady Buff Yard.
 
The loss dropped the Mustangs to 12-12 on the season and to 2-3 in league play as the teams close out the three-game set with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
WT's Meghan Brown and Alyssa Lemos smashed grand slams as part of a nine-run fourth inning in Game 1 as MSU freshman Brenna Hennan took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season.
 
Sophomore catcher Kim Jerrick paced the MSU attack in the opener by going 2-for-2 as she drove in two runs with a double to center field in the third inning in the five inning run-rule contest.
 
West Texas A&M used the long ball to run-rule the Mustangs in six inning in the nightcap as Meghan Slattery crushed a grand slam in the fourth as Renee Erwin and Brown added two-run shots.
 
Hennan pitched two inning to fall to 1-5.
 
MSU senior third baseman Mallory Mooney went 3-for-4 with an RBI to pace the Mustangs' 10-hit attack while Elena Bennett was 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Kelley Schaefer and Nicki Duff drove in two runs each.
