ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State can clinch a share of the Lone Star Conference championship and the No. 1 seed in the league's postseason Tournament set for the Allen Event Center from Feb. 29-March 3 with a win over Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

With a win, the Mustangs would play the No. 8 seed Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. in Allen. Going into Saturday's play, Abilene Christian, Angelo State and Texas A&M-Commerce are tied for the eighth and final tournament berth but Saturday's outcome will force a clear winner.

If Abilene Christian wins at Tarleton State, the Wildcats will claim the No. 8 seed. But if ACU falls in Stephenville, the winner of the Angelo State at Texas A&M-Commerce game will claim the No. 8 seed.

Midwestern would go in as the No. 2 seed with a loss and a Tarleton State win over Abilene Christian. The Mustangs would play Texas A&M-Kingsville in the opening of the LSC postseason tournament Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in that scenario.

The Mustangs overcame a sluggish start to take a lead with 8 minutes to play Wednesday night against West Texas A&M, but the ball didn't bounce MSU's way as the Buffs used a 10-0 to re-establish control despite a second late push by MSU to win 60-56.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Midwestern State which has limited the opposition to 61 points or less in regulation over the six games.

Seven different Midwestern players are averaging better than six points over the last seven games.

Senior guard Michael Loyd leads the way with 12.9 points and 4.0 assists, while junior forward Anthony Harris adds 12.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in five of the contests.

Harris missed the West Texas A&M due to suspension and the Texas A&M-Kingsville game due to injury.

Senior forward David Terrell has connected at an 81-percent clip (34-for-42) from the field while averaging 11.0 points and 5.4 rebounds, while junior guard JaMichael Rivers (8.7 points), senior forward Darrick Thomas (6.9 points, 5.0 rebounds), junior guard DeJuan Plummer (6.6 points) and senior guard Keonte' Logan (6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists) are also producing solid numbers for the Mustangs.

ABOUT THE GREYHOUNDS

Eastern New Mexico snapped a four game skid by overcoming a 12-point second half deficit to take a 67-65 win over Cameron Saturday night in Portales.

The Hounds are locked into the No. 6 seed in next week's LSC Postseason Tournament in Allen.

ENMU (14-12, 7-10) is paced by senior guard Reggie Nelson who has scored 20-or-more points eight times this season and is coming off of a 23-point effort Wednesday against Cameron.

Nelson, who has led ENMU in scoring 14 times this season, scores 16.5 points a game while hitting 44.2 percent (46-of-104) from 3-point range and 86 percent (103-for-121) from the charity stripe.

Senior forward Curtis Wilkinson gives ENMU one of the biggest post presences in the LSC averaging 10.5 points and 6.7 rebounds a game.

Junior guard Devone Davis (8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds), senior guard Traylen Harden (8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds) and sophomore guard Kyle Lantz (4.1 points) are also significant contributors for Eastern.

The 'Hounds have been without three players who played a key role in their upset of the Mustangs in Portales -- senior forward Max Carrier (4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), senior guard Stefan Mirabal (14 points, 3 3s) and senior forward Aaron Edwards (4 points, 3 rebounds).

Andrew Helton has posted a 37-42 mark (.468) in now his third season at the helm at Eastern New Mexico.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State meets Eastern New Mexico for the 37th time on the hardwood Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs own a 21-15 edge in the series in the 16th longest running series in Midwestern history which dates back to the 1948-49 season.

MSU had a nine-game winning streak over the Greyhounds snapped when ENMU claimed an 80-72 win on Jan.14, 2012 in Portales.

The Mustangs have won the last four games at Ligon Coliseum where they own an 11-5 all-time record against the 'Hounds.
