Bats stay hot, Mustangs rake Southeastern Oklahoma for 5th straight win

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Midwestern State rolled to its fifth straight win Saturday afternoon by thumping former Lone Star Conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma 11-5 in the Texas A&M-Kingsville Invitational at Hubert Field.
 
MSU shelled Savage Storm pitching for 15 hits including home runs by Christian Roosmalen, Courtney Ford and Carey Campbell to improve to 6-2 on the season.
 
The Mustangs close tournament play Sunday morning against Southern Arkansas. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
 
Freshman Brenna Hennan picked up her first collegiate win as the Burkburnett tempered the Storm to just two runs over the opening five innings. SOSU chased her with three runs in the sixth inning as Hennan allowed five runs - four earned - on eight hits while walking three in 5 2/3 innings.
 
Fellow frosh Lindsi Glenn came on for the final four outs with one strikeout.
 
The Mustangs jumped on Southeastern ace Audra Rhudy for single runs in the opening two innings. Senior third baseman Mallory Mooney continued her torrid start with an RBI double to plate Courtney Bingham, who reached on a leadoff single.
 
Christina Roosmalen launched her first homer of the season to left center field to push the MSU advantage to 2-0.
 
Rhudy, who dropped to 2-3, retired six of the next seven batters allowing SOSU to knot the game at 2-2 before the Mustangs erupted for six runs on six hits in sending 11 hitters to the dish in the fifth inning.
 
Bingham tripled to right field to start the rally and came plate ward on Elena Bennett's double to left field. Mooney drove in Bennett on a sacrifice fly, while Roosmalen added a two-run double and Nicki Duff had a run scoring single to highlight the frame.
 
Ford launched her third homer of the season on a two-run blast to left field in the sixth and Campbell banged a solo shot in the seven to close out scoring.
 
Bingham paced MSU's 15-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with two runs scored while Mooney (2x3, 2 RBI), Roosmalen (2x4, 3 RBI) and Bennett (2x5, RBI) had two hits each.
 
Southeastern Oklahoma fell to 3-4 on the season.
