ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State is off to its best start in a dozen years at 3-0.  MSU is at 3-0 for the first time since 2000 when it opened the 2000-01 season with a 4-0 start on the way to a 23-7 season and a Lone Star Conference Championship.

The Mustangs are paced by the powerful duo of sophomore Andrea Carter and junior Kirsti Degelia.

Carter, who has won the first two LSC Defensive Player of the Week awards and the first LSC Offensive Player of the Week award, has three straight double-double performances to open the season.  The sophomore from Angleton leads the team with a 16.3 scoring average, a 14.7 rebound average and 4.3 steals average.

Degelia is off strong for the Mustangs as well. The junior from Denton, Texas/Krum is tied with Carter for scoring honors with 16.3 points a game, and she has averaged 4.0 assists a contest and is second on the team with 6.0 rebounds a game.

Carter and Degelia lead the LSC in scoring for players with more than one game played.  Carter leads the LSC in board work for those with more than one game played.

Sophomore Diana Jones of Hewitt, Texas/Midweay may be averaging just 5.3 points a game, but she has 3.3 assists and has nailed 4-of-11 three point attempts (.364) to go with her 2.0 steals a contest.

Midwestern State is receiving votes once again in the WBCA's ESPN/USA Today Division II Coaches Poll.  It's the first time this season for the Mustangs who received votes for five consecutive weeks in January and February last season.

MSU is averaging 71.3 points with 43.7 rebounds a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 57.3 points a contest.

ABOUT THE AGGIES

Oklahoma Panhandle returns to play at home for the first time in two weeks.  The Aggies won their first two games of the season, at home, beating the LSC's Eastern New Mexico 55-49 and downing Barclay (Kan.) of the NCCAA 77-33.  The Aggies then dropped four straight games to NCAA Division II competition away from the OPSU Gym.

The Aggies are under the direction of Charles Terry, in his first assignment as a women's head coach.  Terry, who was an assistant men's coach at East Central (Okla.) last year, is a former men's head coach at OPSU and at Lincoln (Mo.).

The Aggies are paced by the play of senior Whitley Coca of Cimarron, N.M., a transfer from New Mexico Highlands.  She's averaging 15.0 points a game, to go with 5.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals a contest.

Junior Sharice Papaleo of El Paso, Texas/Del Valle, adds 9.3 points and leads the team with 6.0 rebounds and just under one blocked shot a game.

The Aggies average 61.8 points a game, while allowing 67.0.
