O-Line dominates All-Lone Star Conference honors

MSU places six on first team and five on second team

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior guard Ken Van Heule headlined a pack of six Midwestern State players to earn All-Lone Star Conference honors when league officials announced postseason honors Friday afternoon.

MSU head coach Bill Maskill shared coach of the year honors with West Texas A&M's Don Carthel and Texas A&M-Kingsville's Bo Atterberry.

The Mustangs claimed their third Lone Star Conference title in the last four seasons while advancing to the postseason for the sixth time since the Maskill era began in 2002. MSU has posted 13 consecutive winning seasons - the longest streak of any four-year football playing institution in the State of Texas.

Van Heule gave the Mustangs a second consecutive LSC Offensive Lineman of the Year pick as each of the team's five starters on the front line garnered all-league recognition.

Senior tackle Joe 'Unga and senior center Justen Tyler joined Van Heule on the first team while junior guard Tino Tuilata garnered second-team accolades. Junior tackle Bryan Keith gained honorable mention.

The offensive line unit paved the way for NCAA Division II No. 3-ranked rushing attack at 335.7 yards per game as the Mustangs are 14th in total offense 476.9 yards per game. MSU has permitted just four sacks which also leads the nation.

LSC rushing leader Keidrick Jackson garnered All-LSC first-team accolades for the second consecutive season after leading the league with 1,263 yards (126.3 per game). He leads the conference and his third nationally in scoring at 11.4 points per game.

The Harlon Hill candidate has rushed for at least 100 yards in seven games this season including a season highs of 197 against Abilene Christian and 193 at West Alabama.

Senior rover Donald Napoleon and junior safety Taiyon Jackson are MSU's lone first-team representatives.

Napoleon accounted for 49 tackles including a pair of sacks with seven tackles for a loss this season, while Jackson leads the team with 63 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Senior quarterback Brandon Kelsey gained second-team mention after rushing for 790 yards with four games with 100-or-more yards this season. The Arlington native passed for 1,341 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season.

Senior cornerback Coryan Briggs garnered second-team mention making 40 tackles including three for loss with an interception and four pass breakups this season.

Junior kicker Greg Saladino and senior deep snapper Randall Arbuckle garnered second-team honors as special teamers.

Junior tight end Brad Dittmar, senior wide receiver Jared Freeman, sophomore running back Chauncey Harris, senior linebacker Matt Ellerbrock and senior safety Pat Gardner joined Keith as honorable mentions.

West Texas A&M dominated special honors with Dustin Vaughan (J.W. Rollins Offensive Player of the Year), Khiry Robinson (Offensive Back of the Year), Torrence Allen (Co-Receiver of the Year) and Ethan Westbrooks (J.V. Sykes Defensive Player of the Year) all claiming conference hardware.

Midwestern State opens postseason play Saturday at Indianapolis (Ind.). Kickoff from Key Stadium is set for 11 a.m. (Central Time).
