LONE STAR CONFERENCE POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT
Midwestern State and West Texas A&M square off for a berth in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament Final Friday night at The Pitch in Canyon. The semifinal tilt is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time.
The winner advances to face the victor of the other semifinal matchup between Incarnate Word and Angelo State which begins Friday at 5 p.m.
The championship match is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE LSC POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT:Â The six-team single elimination tournament determines the Lone Star Conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division II playoffs. West Texas A&M and Central Oklahoma have claimed five postseason tournament titles followed by Midwestern State with three, Texas A&M-Commerce with two and Abilene Christian with one. The quarterfinal round begins Thursday with the top two seeds receiving byes into Friday's semifinal round. The championship is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be played at The Pitch in Canyon on the West Texas A&M campus.

MSU IN THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT: The Mustangs is making their 17th appearance in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU is the only team to appear in every LSC Postseason Tournament since its inception in 1996. The Mustangs have posted a 16-13-1 mark (.550) in 16 tournament appearances claiming LSC titles in 1996, 1998 and 2012. MSU is 6-1-1 in quarterfinal round play with its lone loss coming by a 1-0 count to West Texas A&M in 2007. MSU is 7-8 (.467) in semifinal round play and is 3-4 (.429) in seven title game appearances.
MSU, WTAMU MEET FOR NINTH TIME IN TOURNEY PLAY: Midwestern State and West Texas A&M are familiar foes when it comes to Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament play. The programs squared off in the first three championship games with MSU coming away with wins in 1996 and and 1998. The Mustangs hold a slim 3-2 edge in semfinal round matchups beating the Lady Buffs to advance to the finals in 1999, 2005 and 2011. Overall, Midwestern is 5-3 all time against West Texas A&M in tournament play.

Ashley Cottrell has needed just 15 shots to net a team-high seven goals this season. The freshman from Arlington has netted a pair of two-goal performances this season against West Texas A&M and Texas Woman's. She has accounted for seven of MSU's 19 goals scored this season with sophomore midfielder

WHITWORTH KEEPS CLEAN SHEETS: Senior goalkeeper
Mallory Whitworth became Midwestern State's all-time shutout leader posting her 21st career blanking on Oct. 21 in a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Commerce before adding another in MSU's 1-0 win over Abilene Christian on Thursday.
Whitworth is also the program's all-time leader in goals against average (0.81) and wins (43).

The Lady Buffs (11-6-1, 10-4) staked the claim to their sixth Lone Star Conference championship skating through the competitive league with a 10-4 mark. The four defeats are the most accumulated by a regular season titlist in the 17-year history of women's soccer in the LSC. Only other team - the 2008 version of the Lady Buffs with an 8-2 mark - suffered more than loss during league play. West Texas A&M has four of its last five matches heading into postseason play and have struggled to a 5-4 record on its home pitch in Canyon.
