MSU FAST FIVE
LSC Postseason Possibilities: The Mustangs are currently alone in fifth place in the Lone Star Conference standings. The top six teams advance to the LSC Postseason set for the site of the regular season champion and clearly nothing has been determined in a wild race. So many different scenarios exist with three games remaining. The Mustangs could finish as high as the No. 2 seed or drop all the out of the seeding for the six-team tournament field. MSU tied each of its remaining three opponents -- Texas Woman's, Texas A&M-Commerce and Abilene Christian.
Honoring the Seniors: Six seniors will play their final matches on the MSU Soccer Field this weekend and will be celebrated during Senior Day festivities during pregame of Sunday's match against Texas A&M-Commerce. This year's seniors include:
Mallory Whitworth (GK),
Haley Crandall (MF),
Berklee Dressler (D),
Hanna Staley (D),
Megan Barnhart (D/MF) and
Maddie Fraser (MF).
Working Overtime: Midwestern State has played in a Lone Star Conference most seven overtime matches this season -- all league matches. The Mustangs are 1-3-3 in those matches and 3-1 in LSC regulation games.
Whitworth in Goal: Senior goalkeeper
Mallory Whitworth tops NCAA Division II in goalkeeper minutes played with 1,463. The McKinney native has played each minute for the Mustangs in goal this season and has accumulated 6,303 career minutes in goal. She needs to play 293 more minutes to pass
Elli O'Dwyer (2002-05) for the most career time spent in goal for an MSU keeper.
Whitworth tops Midwestern's all-time charts in goals against average (0.81) and shutouts (20). With 41 wins, she is two shy of
Lindsey Kiser's total of 43 set from 1997-00.
Cottrell on a Roll: Freshman forward
Ashley Cottrell leads the Mustangs with five goals this season including four tallies in a stretch of four games from Oct. 5-12. The Arlington native netted a goal at Eastern New Mexico and two goals at West Texas A&M before ending the stretch with a goal against Incarnate Word.
