GAME DAY: Mustangs look for sweep at Abilene Christian

Midwestern State looks to bounce back when the Mustangs visit Abilene to take on Abilene Christian.

MSU is 14-4 overall, 10-2 in LSC action after Saturday's disappointing 77-62 loss at Tarleton State.  Abilene Christian stands at 8-10 overall, 3-9 in the LSC after beating Texas Woman's 69-57 at home on Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at ACU's Moody Coliseum.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State had its 10-game winning streak stopped with Saturday's loss at Tarleton.  The Mustangs also ended a streak of winning 13 of 14 games that matched a streak from the 1992-93 season.  However, MSU has a new streak of winning 10 of the last 11 games.

MSU boasts three double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver, who was last week's LSC Offensive Player of the Week.

The Amarillo native ranks second in the LSC with 15.3 points per game while connecting on 1.6 3-pointers a contest.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 10.8 points a contest, while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and adds 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Freshman Dianna Jones tallies 9.4 points a game for the Mustangs.  She is connecting on a 1.0 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 44.4 percent (16-36). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 1.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 8.6 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Senior forward Jazman Patterson, last week's LSC Defensive Player of the Week, adds 6.0 rebounds a game to go with her 6.6 points and 43.6 percent shooting from the floor.

MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 73.2 points and is second in rebounding with 42.3 a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 65.3 points a contest.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS

ACU enters the game with an 8-10 overall record, with a 3-9 Lone Star Conference mark.  The Wildcats snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over Texas Woman's.

The Wildcats are paced by sophomore Mack Langford who averages 19.4 points a contest, including 1.7 3-pointer a game, while adding 3.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists an outing.

Kelsey Smith collects 14.8 points a game.  The 6-2 junior has tallied 7.7 boards a contest while shooting 46.0 percent from the floor and blocking 2.1 shots.

Sophomore Renata Marquez is averaging 10.4 points a contest, while shooting 32.3 percent from the 3-point arc (10-31), grabbing 6.2 boards, dishing 2.7 assists and swiping 1.5 steals per game.

Freshman Paige Parliament adds 8.9 points with 4.7 rebounds and shoots 49.5 percent from the floor.

The Wildcats are averaging 70.0 points a game, while allowing the opposition 71.6 a contest.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State faces Abilene Christian for the 55th time on the hardwood Tuesday when they meet at Moody Coliseum in Abilene.

ACU holds a 35-19 lead in the series against the Wildcats that started in the 1977-78 season. The Mustangs are just 3-24 at Moody Coliseum, including last season's 90-78 win on Feb. 26 to close the year. MSU has a 16-9 record over ACU in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs have won the last two meetings and three of the last four contests between the schools. But that was after MSU had dropped four straight.

MSU won the last meeting 64-57 in Wichita Falls on Dec. 19, 2011.

ACU's last win in the series was on Jan. 15, 2011 in Wichita Falls when the Wildcats claimed an 80-77 victory.
