ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State recovered from its lone loss of the season with a pair of solid wins against previously red hot Cameron to sweep the Red River Rivalry series last week.

The Mustangs (15-1, 8-1) used Dome Magic to squeeze out an 82-80 win over the Aggies on Darrick Thomas' tip-in with 0.8 second to go last Wednesday before righting the ship with a convincing 66-51 win Saturday in Lawton.

The Mustangs return to the dome where they have won nine-straight and 50 of the last 51 games since taking a season opening loss to Dallas Baptist to start the 2008-09 season.

MSU has been playing without suspended junior Anthony Harris, who has been masterful at Ligon Coliseum this season. The 6-7 forward was forced to take an undetermined leave of absence for breaking team rules following the Mustangs loss at Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 14.

Harris is averaging 18.5 points and 7.3 rebounds at home which are in stark contrast to his road numbers of 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds.

Senior Michael Loyd has picked up the slack in Harris' absence. The 6-1 cat-quick guard is the reigning Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Mustangs in scoring in each of the last three games.

Loyd, who has netted double figures in six of his last seven games, notched 16 points to go along with six assists and four steals against ENMU before notching performances of 19 points and four rebounds and 16 points and five rebounds last week against Cameron.

Senior forward David Terrell is averaging 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in just 19.1 minutes over his last seven games and is coming off his fourth double-double of the season 13 points and 10 rebounds Saturday at Cameron.

Reserve junior guard DeJuan Plummer has given MSU instant offense off of the bench connecting for at least nine points in each of the last four games while proving to also be a defensive spark.

Senior reserve guard Kevin Loyd knocked down a season-high three 3-pointers to finish with nine points Saturday at Cameron. He is shooting 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from beyond the arc this season.

ABOUT THE LIONS

Texas A&M-Commerce has lost its last four games and five of the last six heading into Wednesday night game against Midwestern State.

The Lions enjoyed a brief resurgence right before the Christmas break as they strung together three consecutive wins over Great American Conference teams. TAMUC snapped a four-game skid with a 76-74 win over Southern Arkansas before defeating Harding 62-67 and GAC leading Henderson State 85-81 at the St. Edward's Classic in Austin.

Texas A&M-Commerce has struggled mightily during Lone Star Conference play, but defeated Eastern New Mexico 88-77 on Jan. 7 at the A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse. ENMU later handed Midwestern its lone loss of the season.

The Lions are led by LSC Preseason Player of the Desmond King. The sophomore forward pours in 16.1 points per game while pulling down 5.5 rebounds a contest.

Senior guard Brad Hambrick adds 10.6 points connecting on 40-of-91 from 3-point range (44.6 percent), while junior forward Preston Whitley pitches in 10.6 points 3.6 rebounds a game.

Sam Walker is in his 12th season at the helm of the Texas A&M-Commerce program and has posted a 188-142 mark (.570). Walker needs 13 victories to overtake Jim Gudger (201-193) for the most coaching wins in school history. His .570 winning percentage is the fourth highest in the program's annals.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce meet for the 75th time on the hardwood Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs own a 44-30 edge in what will be the fourth longest running series in program history. MSU has played only Wayland Baptist (103), Texas Wesleyan (82) and Abilene Christian (80) more times as the squads have competed since the 1947-48 season.

Midwestern has claimed victories in the last eight meetings of the series with Texas A&M-Commerce's last win coming by an 87-61 count on Feb. 7, 2005.

MSU has won its last four games against the Lions under the dome since TAMUC claimed a 57-46 win on Jan. 29, 2004. The Mustangs are 11-3 versus Texas A&M-Commerce since joining the Lone Star Conference prior to the 1996-97 campaign.
