GAME DAY: Red-hot Mustangs visit Cameron

Midwestern State makes the short drive to Lawton, Okla., on Saturday afternoon for game two of the Red River Rivalry against the Cameron Aggies.

MSU is 12-3 overall, 8-1 in LSC action after the 46-41 win over the Aggies on Wednesday night.  Cameron fell to 12-3 overall, 8-2 in the LSC.

Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at Aggie Gymnasium.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State is riding an eight-game winning streak, the fifth-longest on record for the MSU women after the 46-41 win over Cameron on Wednesday night.  The Mustangs also have won 11 of the last 12 games the best since a 12-2 run in the 2003-04 season.

MSU boasts three double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 14.4 points per game while connecting on 1.5 3-pointers a contest.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 10.9 points a contest, while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor and adds 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Freshman Dianna Jones tallies 10.2 points a game for the Mustangs.  She is connecting on a 1.2 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 50.0 percent (15-30). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 2.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 8.7 points and 5.7 rebounds , while frosh guard Shatoia Gober adds 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds a contest.

MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 74.5 points and is second in rebounding with 42.3 a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 65.5 points a contest.

ABOUT THE AGGIES

Cameron is 12-3 overall, 8-2 in the Lone Star Conference after having its 10-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night.  The Aggies losses are to LSC leading Tarleton State, MSU and Colorado State-Pueblo, all on the road.

The Aggies are paced by Rutgers transfer Julie Paunovic.  The 6-1 senior from Australia averages 15.1 points and 7.1 rebounds a game, while connecting on 1.9 threes a game.  She is this week's LSC Defensive Player of the Week.

Sabelle Diata of Senegal collects 12.9 points a game.  The 6-1 senior is second in the LSC in rebounding with 8.9 boards a contest and leads the LSC with 2.7 blocks per outing.

Senior Nicol Pendarvis chips in 11.3 points and 1.3 steals a game, while junior Alexis Williams adds 10.7 points and 4.0 boards while scoring 1.7 treys a game.

The Aggies are averaging 64.0 points a game, while allowing leading the LSC by allowing just 52.0 a contest.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Cameron meet for the 61st time on Saturday when they square off at Aggie Gym.

MSU holds a 38-22 advantage in the series, but trails 13-14 in the series at Lawton.

The Mustangs have won six of the last seven meetings against CU, but the Aggies lone win in the stretch came last year in Lawton when they won 67-51 on Dec. 13, 2010.

The last time Midwestern was victorious in Lawton was on Jan. 8, 2009 when MSU picked up a 71-54 win.
