GAME DAY: Mustangs host Cameron seeking eighth straight win

Midwestern State hosts the first of consecutive Red River Rivalry games against Cameron on Wednesday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

MSU is 11-3 overall, 7-1 in LSC action after a 70-67 overtime win at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.  Cameron is 12-2 overall, 8-1 in the LSC after beating West Texas A&M on the road 60-56..

Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. on Gerald Stockton Court.

100.9 BOB-FM - The broadcast features the play-by-play voice of two-time Lone Star Conference Broadcaster of the Year Bill Powers. The Taco Casa Pregame Show begins at 4:45 pm.

Television - The game will be televised via delayed broadcast twice on Time Warner Cable Channel 15 on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6 and 9 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 21 beginning at 1 p.m. The game will air on The Texas Channel (Time Warner Digital Channel 888) on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State is riding its first seven-game winning streak in eight years after the 70-67 win at Eastern New Mexico.  It also marks winning 10 of the last 11 games for the Mustangs best start since a 12-2 opening of the 2003-04 season.

MSU boasts three double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 14.9 points per game while connecting on 1.6 3-pointers a contest.

Freshman Dianna Jones has been a Mustangs' spark plug, averaging 11.1 points a game.  She is connecting on a 1.3 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 53.6 percent (15-28). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 2.4 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 10.9 points a contest, while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and adds 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds , while frosh guard Shatoia Gober adds 8.3 points and 4.4 rebounds a contest.

MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 76.5 points and is third in rebounding with 41.3 a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 67.3 points a contest.

ABOUT THE AGGIES

Cameron is 12-2 overall, 8-1 in the Lone Star Conference and is on a 10-game winning streak.  The Aggies only losses are to LSC leading Tarleton State and Colorado State-Pueblo, both on the road.

The Aggies are paced by Rutgers transfer Julie Paunovic.  The 6-1 senior from Australia averages 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds a game, while connecting on 1.9 threes a game.  She is this week's LSC Defensive Player of the Week.

Sabelle Diata of Senegal collects 13.1 points a game.  The 6-1 senior is second in the LSC in rebounding with 8.4 boards a contest and leads the LSC with 2.4 blocks per outing.

Senior Nicol Pendarvis chips in 11.4 points and 1.1 steals a game, while junior Alexis Williams adds 10.9 points and 4.1 boards while scoring 1.7 treys a game.

The Aggies are averaging 65.6 points a game, while allowing leading the LSC by allowing just 52.4 a contest.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Cameron meet for the 60th time on Wednesday when they square off at Ligon Coliseum.

MSU holds a 37-22 advantage in the series, including a 21-6 record against the Aggies at Ligon Coliseum.

The Aggies snapped a five-game MSU win streak in the series last year in Lawton by winning 67-51 on Dec. 13, 2010.

The last time Cameron defeated MSU in Wichita Falls was on Dec. 6, 2005, when CU claimed a 72-65 win.
