GAME DAY: Mustangs close homestand with Lady Buffs

Midwestern State concludes its five-game homestand on Wednesday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum when it hosts West Texas A&M.

MSU is 9-3 overall, 5-1 in LSC action after its 74-67 win over Texas Woman's on Saturday in  LSC action.  West Texas A&M is 8-5 overall, 6-1 in the LSC after falling at Tarleton State 69-62 on Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State is riding its first five-game winning streak in eight years after the 74-67 win over Texas Woman's.  It also marks winning eight of the last nine games for the Mustangs best start since a 12-2 opening of the 2003-04 season.

MSU boasts three double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 14.6 points per game while connecting on 1.5 3-pointers a contest.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 11.5 points a contest, while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and adds 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Jones has been the Mustangs' spark plug, connecting on a 1.2 treys an outing and leads the Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage by nailing 48.0 percent (12-25). The Waco Midway High product pitches in 1.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds , while frosh guard Shatoia Gober adds 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds a contest.

MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 76.1 points and is second in rebounding with 42.2 a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 66.6 points a contest.

ABOUT THE LADY BUFFS

West Texas A&M stands 8-5 overal, 6-1 in the LSC and has now lost two of their last three games.

The Lady Buffs are paced by sophomore Devin Griffin, a transfer from North Carolina State who leads the team with 15.6 points and adds 5.4 rebounds an outing.

Sophomore Kenisha Harris contributes 12.5 points while shooting 48.6 percent from the floor.

Senior Joni Unruh adds 9.5 points and 2.5 steals an outing.

Freshman Chontiqua White leads the squad with 5.7 boards a game, while scoring 7.8 points.

The Lady Buffs are averaging 70.5 points a game, while allowing just 60.0 a contest.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and West Texas A&M meet for the 52nd time on Wednesday when the meet at Ligon Coliseum.

WT holds a decisive 39-12 lead in the series and sports a 17-7 advantange in games at Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs snapped a 13-game losing streak to WT last year with a 62-57 win in Wichita Falls on Jan. 29, 2011.  The Lady Buffs returned the favor with a 75-59 victory in Canyon on Feb. 19, 2011.
