About the Mustangs

Midwestern State has won four of its last five games since suffering a tough double overtime setback at Incarnate Word on Jan. 22 in San Antonio.

Since, the Mustangs have rolled to a pair of double-figure wins at Texas A&M-Kingsville and over No. 20 West Texas A&M.

Senior guard Chris Hagan returned from a toe injury to pace the Mustangs for the 15th time this season with 16 points in 27 minutes.

The 5-9 Houston native continues to lead the LSC with 22.3 points per game scoring average while shooting an impressive 50.8 percent from the field. Hagan also ranks among league leaders with 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals per contest.

Junior guard Michael Loyd continues to impress in a reserve role. The transfer from BYU chipped in 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers to go along with five assists. He has tallied at least 10 points in 15 games this season.

While the guards have provided stellar play all season, the front court is coming on strong.

Junior forward Darrick Thomas is shooting 65.7 percent from the field since the start of division play to pour in 9.8 points and snag 6.8 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game.

Junior forward David Terrell is averaging 8.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 16.2 minutes in South play, while senior Charlie Logan (7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds) and junior Thomas Colbert (6.5 points, 5.2 rebounds) have been more than solid.

The front court is fueling a rebounding revival as the Mustangs are outboarding the LSC South opposition by a 39.3-to-29.8 margin.

About the Texans

Tarleton State continues as one of the best home teams in NCAA Division II.

The Texans are 11-0 at home and have won the last 13 at Wisdom Gym.

Senior guard Corin Henry is the lone Tarleton player averaging double figures tallying 13.2 points to go along with 3.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.

But the Texans hang their hat on low scoring affairs as they lead the nation by holding the opposition to 51.6 points per game. Opponents are shooting 36.5 percent against the Texans this season.

Tarleton boasts four other players averaging at least seven points a game including senior guard Devon Hills (8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds), junior guard Carrington Tankson (8.1 points, 2.3 rebounds) and junior forward Wes Dipprey (7.4 points, 6.6 rebounds).

The Texans average 73.8 points per for the season, but have managed just 63.5 points a contest during LSC South Division play.

About the Series

Midwestern State meets Tarleton State for the 57th time on the hardwood Saturday night at Wisdom Gym.

The Mustangs own a dominating 39-17 edge in the series that dates back to the 1961-62 season and have won eight of the last 10 contests over the Texans.

MSU swept each of the four games between the teams last season including in the LSC title match and the NCAA Division II South Central Region semifinals.

The Mustangs own a 14-8 edge over Tarleton all time on its home floor and victories in three of their last four trips to Stephenville.
