No. 25 Tarleton ends Mustangs' streak at 41

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The streak is over.

Tarleton State's Corin Henry scored the only five points in the final 90 seconds of the game as his jumper from the elbow with 19 seconds remaining lifted No. 25 Tarleton State to a 49-47 Lone Star Conference South Division over Midwestern State.

The win clinched an outright South Division title for the Texans and ended MSU's home court winning streak at 41.

It was the first loss for the Mustangs at D.L. Ligon Coliseum since falling to Dallas Baptist in the 2008-09 season opener on Nov. 15.

The Mustangs (19-7) slipped into a four-way tie for second place with West Texas A&M, Eastern New Mexico and Angelo State - all at 7-5.

MSU plays host to Angelo State Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum before closing the regular season at Abilene Christian Saturday night at Moody Coliseum.

The Mustangs roared out of the locker room on an 11-2 run as David Terrell set the tone with an alley-oop pass form Keonte' Logan before Michael Loyd hit a pair of free throws to give MSU a 29-26 lead.

Chris Hagan hit a 16-foot jumper from the right wing then Adrian Van Buren drained a 3-pointer to give the Mustangs a 36-28 lead with 13:58 to play.

But Tarleton answered with a 9-0 run of its own to regain the lead 39-38 with 8:24 to play.

The lead was short lived as David Terrell answered with a baseline runner before Loyd canned a driving layup as the Mustangs pushed the lead to 43-39 on a Terrell free throw with 5:36 to play.

MSU maintained the lead until Henry canned a trey to knot the game at 47-47 then hit the 15-foot jumper for the win.

Loyd connected on four 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 20 points, while Terrell added nine points and six rebounds.

Henry paced the Texans with 10 points and six assists.
