About the Mustangs

Midwestern State has won its last three game and five of its last six games and remains in position to claim its third straight Lone Star Conference South Division title.

But the Mustangs have to make a two-game deficit to Tarleton State over the final four games of the regular season as MSU battles to retain sole control of at least second place in the rugged South.

The Texans currently lead the division with a 9-1 mark followed by MSU at 7-3 while West Texas A&M and Angelo State are knotted at 6-5 just a half-game ahead of Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico at 5-5.

Only four of those teams will survive to play in the Lone Star Conference Championships in two weeks in Bartlesville.

Senior guard Chris Hagan is clearly back in the groove firing in at least 22 points in each of his last three games including 33 at Eastern New Mexico, 22 against Incarnate Word and 26 versus Texas A&M-Kingsville. He now has 14 20-point performances this season.

The Houston native leads the LSC with a 22.4-points per game average which is the most by an MSU player since former NAIA All American Robert Harris splashed in 22.6 points a game in 1985-86. Only seven other have averaged at least 22 points a game in the storied history of Midwestern basketball.

Junior forward David Terrell has come on strong over the last five games. The transfer from Midland College has scored at least 11 points in each game while averaging 13.8 points and shooting 78 percent from the field (32-of-41).

About the Buffs

West Texas A&M (19-5, 6-5) has struggled to a 3-2 home mark during LSC South Division play after opening the regular season with seven-straight wins at First United Bank Center.

The Buffs have split their last six games and are coming off of a hard-fought 47-42 setback Wednesday night at Tarleton State.

LaDarius Hall leads a pack of six WT players scoring better than 6 points a game in a very balanced attack.

The 6-2 senior guard scores 13.0 points and pulls down 4.3 rebounds a game and splashed in 22 points in WT's 69-54 loss to MSU last month in Wichita Falls.

Junior guard Rod Little comes off of the bench to score 9.9 points a game while senior guard Joe Mincey (9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds), junior guard Lionel Foster (8.5 points, 5.3 assists), senior forward Jacquiese Holcombe (8.2 points, 5.4 rebounds) and junior forward Courtney Carr (6.8 points, 4.9 rebounds) are the Buffs' other top options.

West Texas A&M is currently tied for third place in the South with Angelo State at 6-5 and just half game ahead of Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico at 5-5.
