David Terrell paced a group of five player in double figures with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Mustangs rolled to a 92-50 exhibition win over NAIA Paul Quinn College Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

But it was definitely not a masterpiece as MSU committed 26 turnovers and struggled to an 8-for-25 showing at the free-throw line.

"I feel good about our effort, but we are definitely a work in progress," MSU coach
Nelson Haggerty said. "We have to take care of the basketball a lot better than we've been doing. And for God's sake, we've got to make some free throws."

However, hustle play more than countered whatever struggles the Mustangs may have had.

MSU frustrated the Tigers into 25 turnovers paced by senior guard
Keonte' Logan's six-steal night. The Mustangs converted those into 23 points and amassed a 20-4 edge in fast-break points.

Midwestern jumped out to a 9-3 lead and pushed the lead to 39-18 when
Derrell Gibbs' 3-pointer at the buzzer was counted on an offensive goal tend.

JaMichael Rivers knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 14 points and five rebounds while Logan,
DeJuan Plummer and
Anthony Harris pitched in 12 points. Harris added 11 rebounds to complete a double-double.

Michael Loyd completed an all-around effort with four points, 10 assists, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks in just 22 minutes of court time.

Former Sam Houston State standout Nafis Richardson poured in a game-high 27 points to pace Paul Quinn aided by a 16-of-20 effort from the charity stripe.

The Mustangs open the regular season Friday night against Mid-America Christian at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
