About the Mustangs

Midwestern State needs to turn on the aggression to overcome its 2010-11 road woes Wednesday night at Steinke Center.

The Mustangs own a +7.0 rebounding margin at home and work their way to the free throw line for 33.3 charity tosses per game in their eight games at D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season, but have been quite a different team outside of Wichita Falls.

On the road, the opposition has out-rebounded MSU by a 2.4 margin and the Mustangs have struggled to find the their way to the free throw line where they shot 22.6 free throws a game over seven road contests - all losses.

The whistle has definitely sung a different tune by venue, as well.

The Mustangs have been whistled for 19.3 fouls a game at home and 21.2 fouls on the road. MSU's opponents have been charged for 27.1 fouls a game at Ligon Coliseum to just 20 fouls a contest on their home floors against MSU.

Senior forward Nolisha Markham paced the Mustangs for the fourth consecutive game and needed just six field goal attempts to finish with 14 points in 38 minutes in Saturday's loss at Incarnate Word.

Markham leads the Lone Star Conference South Division with 20.8 points a game during divisional play.

Junior forward Jazman Patterson battled her way out of a funk by hustling her way to 12 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes off of the bench, while freshman guard Kirsti Degelia worked her way to the line for six free throws to finish with 10 points against the Cardinals.

The trio combined for 70.5 percent of the Mustangs' scoring output against UIW. The outing matched MSU's lowest scoring output of the season.

About the Javelinas

Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped its seventh straight game to fall to 2-14 on the season Saturday when the Javelinas lost 84-82 in overtime at Abilene Christian.

TAMUK has posted just one win against NCAA Division II competition this season which came in a 68-64 overtime victory against Southwestern Oklahoma on Dec. 7, 2010 at Steinke Center.

Freshman forward Chelsea Solis delivered the Jav's first 20-point performance of the season Saturday afternoon at ACU as she connected on four 3-pointers to finish with 22 points raising her season average to 9.5 points per game.

Sophomore Victoria Gonzalez remains TAMUK's most consistent scoring threat averaging 10.1 points and 9.8 rebounds a game on the block. The 5-11 forward is the Javelinas' top defensive presence with 1.9 blocks a contest.

Texas A&M-Kingsville boast six players averaging 7-or-more points a game which also includes freshman forward Novella Thomas (9.6 points, 4.9 rebounds), sophomore guard Meagan Barlow (8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds), senior post Rochelle Ikeni (7.6 points, 7.0 rebounds) and junior guard Kelly Bastow (7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds).

The Javelinas average 58.9 points a game and allow 70.4.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville meet for the 30th time on the hardwood Wednesday night at Steinke Center.

The Mustangs own a slim 15-14 edge in the series which dates back to the 1994-95 season, but the Javelinas have won the last five games in the series including a season sweep in 2009-10.

TAMUK defeated Midwestern 83-76 in overtime on Jan. 27, 2010 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum then defeated the Mustangs 72-63 on Feb. 17, 2010 in Kingsville.

Former standout guard Stacey Staten hit 8-of-9 shots and scored 19 points to lift the Mustangs to their last victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville by a 62-55 margin on Jan. 19, 2008 in Wichita Falls.

MSU has tasted success against the Javelinas at Steinke Center where the Mustangs have posted an 8-7 mark against TAMUK, but the Hoggies have won the last four games of the series on their home floor.
