Mustangs clinch LSC South title, down Angelo State 105-100

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Good teams find ways to win under duress and in tough circumstances.

No. 7 Midwestern State answered the bell against a tough Angelo State squad to come away with a 105-100 win in overtime Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum to notch its second-straight Lone Star Conference South Division championship.

The Mustangs also clinched the No. 1 seed in the South for next week's LSC Championship to be played at Bruin Field house in Bartlesville, Okla. and face the No. 4 seed out of the LSC North at 2:30 p.m. next Wednesday.

Midwestern will be the outright South Division champs if Angelo State defeats Tarleton State Saturday night at Stephens Arena.

Senior guard Craig Green poured in a team-high 27 points as he went over the 20-point barrier for the fourth-straight game as the Mustangs erased a 91-88 deficit with 39 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Jason Ebie dealt a nice pass on a drive to Charlie Logan, who slammed in his 16th point of the second half to cut the margin to 91-90.

Chris Hagan picked Stavon Williams' pocket on the next possession and hit just one of two free throws to knot the game at 91-91 with 16 seconds to play.

The Mustangs forced LaMarshall Corbett into another turnover, but was unable to get off a shot before the buzzer.

Ebie, who finished with six steals, played a key role in picking up the defensive tempo late in the extra period.

After Green hit a pair of free throws to give the Mustangs a 99-98 lead with 1:42 to go in overtime, Ebie picked Corbett's and fed Anthony Moore for a layup to put MSU up 101-98 with 1:27 to go.

Green hit another 15-foot jumper to put the Mustangs up five, then answered Corbett's pair of free throws to secure the Mustangs 26th-straight win at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Midwestern completed its sixth-straight undefeated season at home and first since the 1998-99 season when the Mustangs played host to the South Central Regional.

Logan finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and five blocks, while Jason Ebie had 18 points and seven assists.

Michael Godwin had his second double-double fo the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Chris Hagan had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Corbett paced the Rams with 31 points, while Johnny Barnes had 23 points and 15 rebounds.
